[Mallory Dracul]

It was a nice, sunny day, perfect for Skiddo riding on the beach. But Mallory wasn't paying any attention at all to the warmth of the sun, or the whiteness of the sand- her attention was fixated almost entirely on the ocean and anything that moved in it, not that she showed it. To any casual observer she appeared relaxed, perhaps even half-asleep. In reality, she was eagerly searching for anything that could become the newest member of her team.

Mallory indicated for Fern to stop as she spotted movement in the water. Quietly she hopped from her Skiddo's back, shielding her eyes from the sun to see a Squirtle was enjoying the water.

"Fern, get that Squirtle onto the shore," she ordered. Fern snorted, using Vine Whip to grasp the Squirtle and fling it onto the sand. The turtle-like Pokémon looked furious about the unexpected interruption, and didn't hesitate to leap forwards and bite down on Fern's leg. Fern reared, using Vine Whip again, this time striking the Squirtle viciously and relentlessly.

The Squirtle staggered, looking exhausted. Mallory considered having Fern use Razor Leaf to finish it off- if it was so tired already, it was clearly weak. But then she paused. She didn't have a water-type yet, and while this Squirtle was weak, as a Blastoise it could be powerful. It wasn't like she had anything to lose. She shrugged before throwing the poke ball at the Squirtle, catching it.
