Welcome to Gray Haven Academy! In order to keep the site a pleasant place for everyone we have a few guidelines. Please take some time to look through them as they will be enforced.
2.) Don't spam. This includes replies that contribute nothing to the topic (such as just xD) or responses that are just so far off topic that it looks like you posted in the wrong thread.
3.) If someone is doing something you don't like, or is breaking the rules, PM a staff member. We tend to trust our members so we may not even know if someone is doing something you don't like, ICly or OOCly. Even if it's a minor thing, don't be afraid to bring it up to us privately. It's not whiny, we promise.
4.) Don't post in any IC areas before your character is accepted. Posting in OOC areas before then is fine.
5.) There are three custom profile fields in the mini-profile: a link to the character's profile, a link to the character's PC, and a link to the character's plotter (if they have one). Please fill them out so people can easily find those threads. Note that plotters are optional, but the links to the character profile and PC are not.
6.) Follow the Proboards Terms of Service. This means keep everything safe for work, don't promote or do illegal things, and post in English.
2.) Posts should have decent spelling and grammar and should not use chat speak. No one expects you to be perfect, your posts just need to be readable.
3.) No godmoding. Your character is not all powerful and should not act that way.
4.) No power playing. Don't control other peoples' characters without their permission. As a note, when this happens in a thread we will often assume that the player got permission, so if they don't and you don't like it, be sure to complain.
5.) No metagaming. You should not use information you know OOCly in character if your character has no way of knowing that information.
6.) Liquid time is allowed. This means your characters can be in more than one thread at once.
7.) This roleplay takes place in an alternate universe, so the events of the games have not happened. Your characters should never refer to any events that happened in the games, anime or any other source.
2.) There is no character limit so feel free to play as many as you want. Just try to keep them all active.
3.) Make a new account for every character you make and make that account's display name your character's first and last name.
4.) Making edits to profiles after they have been accepted is not allowed. If you really need to edit something in yours ask a staff member to edit it for you.
5.) Once your character is accepted make a PC for them. Information about what they should contain can be found in this thread under the "PCs" heading.
2.) Characters should not be a carbon copy of their face claim.
3.) All the graphics in your profile (avatars, signatures, etc) should be of your character.
4.) Avatars will be resized to 150x150 pixels if they are not that already. If you don't want the quality of your avatar to suffer, make sure it is that size.
5.) Signatures should not be any larger than 500x250. Don't add a massive wall of text in your signature either.
6.) All images must be safe for work, and must follow the Proboards Terms of Service.
7.) Don't steal or hotlink other peoples' images.
8.) Changing face claims after that character has been accepted is not allowed.
2) You can format your PC however you want. There is a template here, but it is not required.
3) You need to include the following for each Pokemon:
• What species it is
• Its gender
• Its ability (it can only have one)
• Its held item, if it has one
• Its moves
• Its contest condition
• Sprites are preferable, but not required
• Its experience points, the source of those experience points, and the source of any contest experience points it has. Making these links usually keeps things tidy.
4) A PC must contain a list of items the character has. This might be ability capsules, held items, rare candy, pokeblocks or many more things that have a mechanical effect on the game. Each character receives a starter pack with the following items depending on their member group:
Students
• Academy Pokeballs
• Berry Pouch
• Map of the Island
• PokeDex
• Student ID
• Badge Case
School Staff Members
• Academy Pokeballs
• Berry Pouch
• Map of the Island
• PokeDex
• School ID
Team Origin Members
• Pokeballs
• Berry Pouch
• Map of the Island
• PokeDex
• Team Origin ID
5) You are free to include any personal items. As long as it isn't an actual item that has any effect on the Pokemon in any way, we're cool with it.
1) Catching it!
Requesting a specific pokemon in a capture thread
1) When making a capture thread, you can request a specific pokemon. Doing so will increase the chances that you find what you are looking for.
2) You can request the pokemon's species, gender, ability, shininess, and any combination of those traits. They will all be rolled separately.
3) Requesting more than one species does not increase the odds that you'll find one of them. The odds are the same if you request 1 as they are if you request 5. Requesting more means that whoever mods your thread will just pick between them randomly if the RNG decides to spawn something that's been requested. Therefore, if there's a pokemon you really want, make sure to only request that one.
4) Wild pokemon will never be spawned with hidden abilities, even if that ability is requested.
5) If you have anything that helps in capture threads (a pokemon with pickup, the 5th badge or ribbon, etc) make sure to note them. If they are not noted they will not be considered when a mod spawns a pokemon for you.
2) Events/Mission rewards.
iii) Missions normally have pokemon spawn or have rewards that determine species, gender, ability, and moves. If you take that pokemon, they must keep those things.
iv) If an event or mission says you get to choose those things, then you get to choose them.[/ul]
3) From other trainers.
4) Reviving fossils.
ii) When a fossil is revived the pokemon will have its gender, ability, and moves determined by a mod. If you take that pokemon, they must keep those things.[/ul]
5) Breeding and Eggs.
Once a pokemon has been caught, it can gain experience and evolve. Here are the rules on experience and evolution.
1.) All pokemon evolve by the same methods, regardless of how they would evolve in the games.
2.) Pokemon can earn experience points in the following ways.
v) Gym class gives 1 exp to the pokemon brought to class.
vi) Missions give a set amount of exp for completing the mission. This means that any pokemon defeated during the mission do not give extra exp.
vii) Note that experience points gained in the above ways cannot be claimed until the catch post/battle/contest/training post/class/mission is done.
viii) Rare candy will give the pokemon that eats it 1 experience point. Note that if the pokemon can evolve, it can only eat 3 pieces of rare candy before evolving. This cap does not apply to pokemon that cannot evolve.
ix) When a pokemon gets an experience point, they can add or change one move. These moves can be level up moves, TM, HM, Egg Moves, Tutor Moves, or Event Moves from any generation. They can also learn moves from a prior evolution.
x) When a pokemon gains an experience point, post in the Training Log for recordkeeping purposes.
xi) A pokemon cannot learn more than 10 moves.[/ul]
3.) Coordination stats and exp
iii) Participating in a contest with another character will give the performing pokemon 1 experience point and 1 contest experience point. Please note that the experience point and contest experience cannot be claimed until the contest is done.
iv) All contest stats (condition) cap at 10.
v) When a pokemon eats a pokeblock they can add or change 1 of their pokemon's moves. These moves can be level up moves, TM, HM, Egg Moves, Tutor Moves, or Event Moves from any generation. They can also learn moves from a prior evolution.
v) Pokeblocks and condition do not count as experience points, so they do contribute to a pokemon's evolution in most cases. The only exception to this are pokemon that evolve because of their condition.[/ul]
General
1.) Treat everyone with respect and don't be a jerk. This includes people you don't like.2.) Don't spam.
6.) Follow the Proboards Terms of Service. This means keep everything safe for work, don't promote or do illegal things, and post in English.
In Character
1.) There is no word minimum or maximum. Post whatever you think is necessary to say what you want to say. Do remember that we expect quality over quantity.

6.) Liquid time is allowed. This means your characters can be in more than one thread at once.
7.) This roleplay takes place in an alternate universe, so the events of the games have not happened. Your characters should never refer to any events that happened in the games, anime or any other source.
Characters
1.) No Mary Sues. Your character needs to be well-rounded and have flaws.2.) There is no character limit so feel free to play as many as you want.
Graphics
1.) All face claims should be in an animanga style even if they are not from an anime or manga. CG images are not allowed, but characters that come from mostly CG sources (such as Final Fantasy) are allowed as long as you use animanga styled art. Characters from the pokemon canon are allowed as well since this is an alternate universe. Original art in an anime style is also fine.2.) Characters should not be a carbon copy of their face claim.
PCs
1) PCs are meant to be a record of characters' items and pokemon. Make sure to update it when the character obtains new items or pokemon, or something about their pokemon changes (learning new moves for example).2) You can format your PC however you want.

Pokemon Rules
In order to build a team, one needs to add Pokemon to it. Here are the ways to obtain pokemon on Gray Haven Academy1) Catching it!
Requesting a specific pokemon in a capture thread
1) When making a capture thread, you can request a specific pokemon. Doing so will increase the chances that you find what you are looking for.

Random Events
Sometimes it can be difficult to develop characters through character interaction alone. In order to help move your character's story along, you might receive a PM from a staff member with the keyword [random event] in the title of the PM. It will contain either a scenario, something your character could discover, or an action your character could take. For example, if your character is looking for a person (especially if that person is an NPC), they might find some information about them. You could then take that information and use it to continue your character's story in ways that you may not have been able to before. Hopefully it'll add some extra curveballs at you to keep the game interesting. None of these random events have to be used if you don't want to so if you get one you're not interested in or don't like then you're welcome to ignore it completely.
