It was a sunny, cloudless day. The dojo was offering free lemonade. Of course the place was packed. Finley sipped on her free lemonade in a water bottle and sat in the shade of a tree, sending a silent thanks to her past self for thinking to pack three bottles of water (two of which she’d already gone through) and to wear a t-shirt and shorts in a day that was only going to get hotter.

For the past fifteen minutes, while Brian played in the branches of the tree, she’d been spying out one of the battlefields. The two trainers on it were new and using two pokemon each, and so she thought the battle was to be over quickly. As it turned out, the trainers were newer than she’d expected, and they spent more time yelling at their pokemon, trying to get them to do anything at all, than actually fighting.

But at last, their fight was ending. The rattata fainted by the beak of the tallow, and the battle was won and lost. As the two trainers cleared off the field, Finley stood up, called for Brian, and marched onto that rectangle drawn onto the ground with chalk. She would get her battle.

As she gazed around the field, sided Finley realized her next problem - she hadn’t brought anyone to battle against. Well, she was a single trainer standing in a whole battlefield, surely someone would turn up, challenge her to a duel, and then it’d begin.

Boy was he grateful that he did not have to be in a uniform out here. I mean, Good Arceus almighty it was hotter than a Magcargo with Flame Body out here today! But what better day than today to visit the Pokemon Dojo? Word on the street was that the people working there were handing out free lemonade to trainers. Free!? People would have to be out of there minds to pass that up! But Shane had an entirely legitimate reason for wanting to return to the dojo today. He and his pokemon needed to train harder, or so he had thought. He couldn't let up now. Not ever.

Coming off of his first gym battle victory, the young Bolt student from Kanto was practically radiating with a feeling of accomplishment. But he knew that he couldn't stop there, and so, he'd continue on his quest. Sporting a navy blue t-shirt, gray cargo shorts, and matching sneakers to boot, the boy made haste for his intended destination. Strapped around his waste were the select few of his friends whom he had decided to bring out for extensive training. The kid has done his homework recently, having studied up on those whom he had considering issuing a challenge to next.

On his way to the dojo however, Shane was stopped dead in his tracks by the sight of a Rattata and a Taillow duking it out. A battle out here? Smack dab in the middle of the city? Why not, he thought. And so he decided to spectate this particular contest from the corner of an empty street. He might have been a tad too late to the party though, as the battle had soon ended with the Rattata's bitter defeat. As their owners parted ways, another figure presented itself, another trainer perhaps? Standing alone with a Mankey - a pokemon that Shane himself was all too familiar with.

Taking the initiative - perhaps on impulse alone - Shane approached the individual whilst at the same time silently analyzing the field. "What...is this supposed to be a battlefield? This is actually pretty clever." he mused, then turned his eyes to examine the lone figure. It appeared to have been drawn, being that there was surely no sight of an official battleground anywhere within the vicinity. "Are you by chance looking for a battle?" asked the pro-trainer-in-the-making.

Samuel didn't mind hot weather. It was better than wet weather, anyway. What he did mind was having to chase around an insanely hyperactive Eevee- an Eevee he was supposed to be training in preparation for his second gym challenge.

As usual, Riki had other plans and had gone shooting off on his own the second he had been let out of his ball. So boy and Pokémon were weaving through the crowds of people- many of whom Samuel suspected were just here for the free lemonade- and, in Samuel's case at least, trying not to get in anybody's way.

Riki skipped between the legs of an onlooker and to the edge of the field. There at last he stopped, nose lifted and ears perked, gazing ahead at the two already there. Samuel vaguely recognised one from his classes. The other, not a clue. But Riki was certain the Mankey one of the others had looked like fun, and bounded over to crouch playfully, almost demanding attention.

"Riki, wait!" Samuel panted, wishing the Eevee would calm down for once. This was why Riki never went to the dojo, or to classes. He just couldn't understand the concept of 'calm obedience'.

"Okay, I believe that's enough training for today." Lilith smiled at her small Dark/Dragon type Pokemon. The young female Mana student had been working hard to train some of her smaller Pokemon. She flashed her little Deino one last smile before returning him back into his Poke Ball. She placed the tiny red and white sphere back into her back pack before exiting the training room. After exiting the training room, the raven-haired female soon noticed a few students standing in a waiting line. "Free lemonade, huh?" She whispered to herself as she read over a flyer. "That definitely sounds refreshing." She added before making her way towards the waiting line. Luckily, she didn't have to wait too long to move up in the line. "Thanks." She smiled at the vendor as she took her free lemonade and took a modest sip from it. "Mmm, this is truly delicious." She smiled after enjoying the sweet, yet tangy taste of the lemonade. She took a few more sips then started exploring the rest of the Dojo. 

A couple of minutes passed and Lilith found herself coming to a quick halt. There appeared to have been an interesting battle taking place not too far away from her. "Oh, I didn't know that students could actually have battles here." She spoke softly to herself as she continued to watch the battle. She didn't know why she seemed so shocked about a battling taking place in the dojo, it was a dojo after all. Unfortunately, she had arrived on the scene a little late, because the intense  battle soon came to an end. Still, she was a bit impressed by both of the trainer's battling skills. 

Lilith's piercing blue eyes soon captured the sight of a couple of familiar faces not too far away from her. Apparently, she wasn't the only one admiring the previous Pokemon battle. A soft smile curved against her lips as she decided to approach her fellow classmates and good friend. "Oh hello guys. I guess I wasn't the only one enjoying the free lemonade and entertainment here, I am?" She giggled then took a couple of more sips from out of her lemonade then tossing the container away into a near trashcan. "I must admit watching that Pokemon battle kind of got me in the mood to participate in a battle too." She stated, glancing over towards the battlefield. 

Lilith's attention was soon interrupted after noticing a cute little Eevee running towards them. Shortly after noticing the Eevee, Lilith soon noticed its trainer running behind it. Another familiar face to be exact. "Oh, hi Samuel." She greeted the Nature Dorm student then kneeling down a bit to greet his Eevee. "Well, hello there." She smiled at Riki.

It’d gone better than she’d hoped. Not one or two, but three trainers had shown up within minutes of the field emptying. She guessed that’s just what happens when places were packed. The first of whom was a fairly tall guy Finley felt she’d seen around the Bolt Dorm, but his name escaped her. Honestly, she really should meet more people.

“Right?” She said in agreeance and regard of the field. “They should’ve prepared more, though - seems this is the only open one left.” She gazed around for no reason other than to break eye contact. She’d done all the surveying of the landscape she’d needed to get a pretty good picture while waiting for the battlefield to open. “I am looking for a battle, yes.” She said in a contemplating tone. Then, louder, so as to address the other two as well, said, “And I assume the three of you are as well?”

Granted, one of them had just come onto the field chasing his eevee, but what kind of trainer would walk away from an opportunity like this? Crossing her arms, she said, “How perfect - with four people we can have a two on two. Maybe they’ve got the right number of battlefields after all.”

It wasn’t just the tall fellow who Finley recognized - she felt like she’d passed the other two in the halls of the Academy as well, the boy in the dorms again even. And, again, she knew none of their names. The girl and blond boy (whose name she caught as Samuel), on the other hand, seemed to be of friendly acquaintance. That made the issue of pairing up simple.

Finley turned to the tall fellow. “If so, want to be partners?” She asked, meaning to waste as little time on formalities and waiting games of “so who’s going to ask who” as possible. “I’m Finley, by the way. I’m a student in a Bolt Dorm, as I assume you are? Nice to meet you.” She extended a hand.

They really should have drawn more fields just like this. That way, many more trainers and coordinators alike could have fun their fair share of fun in the sun. Not that he would complain about it that though. But the lone trainer had confirmed that it was a battle being sought out here. That might not have been the particular reason that Shane himself had come out here. But he was more than ready for a battle whenever the opportunity would present. Another chance had just come up here.

Three of them? Last time he had checked there was only himself and the Mankey owner. He turned to look in the direction of where the other trainer had spoke, and there stood fellow classmate and dear friend Lilith, as well as a fellow Bolt boy whom just so happened to be in pursuit of his own Eevee, which he found quite cute and hysterical at the same time. "Oh! Hey you two!" Shane stifled his laughter at the sight of that divine 'pokemon-and-its-trainer' moment. He's had quite a few of those himself now.

"Well I was actually on my way to the dojo to train - and to get some of that free lemonade they are supposedly giving out today - but I could never say no to a battle! A two on two battle sounds like fun." he ultimately answered. He took his newfound partner's hand to shake it lightly. "I'm Shane, and I'm also in the Bolt Dorm. Come to think of it, I believe I may have seen you around before. We might have even had a class together for all we know. It's good to officially meet you too."

Having finally caught up to his Eevee- who was now cheerfully dabbing his paw at the Mankey- Samuel took a moment to look around before responding to his fellow students. So, Riki had led him straight onto a battlefield, had he? It seemed the Eevee wasn't completely idiotic after all. Perhaps he had overheard the previous battle that had taken place here.

"Hey, Lilith!" he greeted the Mana dorm student cheerfully, recognising her from one of his classes. He also vaguely recognised the taller of his fellow Bolt students from class, though the second he could not recall seeing around before. Thanks to Lilith's greeting, he had no need to introduce himself, so he merely nodded and smiled to the other two students whilst crouching to grab Riki before he caused any more bother.

It seemed the other students were interested in battling. Samuel grinned at the thought. "A two on two battle sounds like fun," he agreed excitedly. "Riki and I were just going to do some training when Riki decided to run off. It'll be good experience for him."

86 in the shade and I'm sipping on some lemonade...

That was the modified rap line that was going through Santos mind. The purple haired trainer had ditched his usual dark outfit in exchange for a white sleeveless shirt and a pair of dark pants. Like the rap line he was sipping on some free lemonade while chilling in the shade of the dojo. He also had a small insulated bag with cold fresh water in it. He would be a fool without water in this heat. The dojo had been so packed with people that it was cooler in the shade just outside the building he thought then inside and that was because when you pack people into the building no amount of A/C would cool them off and heaven help them if the A/C decided to suddenly break down because then you would be feeling the heat of people and pokemon but in any condition, Santos was content to relax in the shade and drink on some refreshing lemonade with a straw.

A hiss was heard as a claw lightly poked Santos. Scorpio was on Santo's shoulder made a hiss like noise while pointing at the drink.

Santos put the straw toward his pokemon and the Scorpion pokemon took a long drink then released it with a satisfied hiss and pleased look. For some reason the desert bug loved Lemonade. Santos didn't know why maybe it was the acidic lemon juice that made up the drink or something but he had heard tales that drinks were also used to restore the health of pokemon as well. Anyways when his pokemon finished his drink, Santos happened to notice a friend of his Lilith, she had just come out of the dojo training a Deino and had met up with a few other students and it looked like the four was about to start a team battle. Santos wondered how far the mana girl had come along in training.

Lilith's deep blue eyes sparkled after hearing Finley stated that the group could engage in a double battle against each other. She had never participated in double battle before, and it was one form of battle that she always wanted to test out. She had read more than enough books related to different styles of battles in her leisure time. Therefore, she was fairly confident that she had a clear understanding of how  double battles should work on the battlefield. 

Another smile formed against Lilith's mouth once hearing the other group members agreeing to take part in the double battle. "Awesome, this battle will be a lot of fun and quite an experience." She smiled at her fellow classmates again. Finley had already asked Shane to be her partner, which left Lilith and Samuel as partners. "Alright Samuel, it looks like we're going to be teaming up together. I hope you're ready to do this." She smiled at Samuel, giving him a thumbs up. 

"The free lemonade is quite delicious. You all should definitely go grab some after the battle. I think that it would be a good way to spend some time together and it will allow us all to get to know each other a little better outside of the classroom." She suggested with a soft smile. "Until then, we should get this battle started, I'm pretty hyped for it!" She added with another smile. She was so amped about the battle that she didn't even notice Santos lurking around the battlefield.

The four of them seemed to be in agreeance, both in battle and in teams. Not wanting to delay, Finley strode towards the far end of the field. She was excited. Perhaps a little too much so - but this would be her first real trainer battle. She could indulge a little in the anticipation. Brian, on the other hand, stayed behind in the field. He knew he’d be batting first, and was now more interested with the eevee than the happenings of the trainers. The monkey tilted his head - or rather, his entire upper half - at the little pokemon, and poked him in the forehead.

With not much prior experience or focus in battle, Finley was near certain all three of the other trainers outclassed her. From across the field, she surveyed the two she’d be facing. Samuel was the youngest among him, and if he was to use his eevee she’d have the advantage with her mankey - she hoped. He didn’t seem like a new trainer, and the way he spoke about training his pokemon made it sound like this wasn’t the first time he’d raised one, and normal types were odd in the fact of how versatile they were. The pokemon might have a trick or two up his sleeve. Moving on to the next opponent, Finley knew nothing about Lilith’s (as she’d caught her name) pokemon, but she did know one thing. The woman was, well, stunning. Finley’d grown up around coordinators and knew beauty when she saw it - and Lilith could certainly fit right in with all the coordinators up on stage. That, however, told Finley little about how she would battle.

She could share a bit about how she would battle with her partner, however. She didn’t care too much if her opponents heard, but she tried to keep her voice loud enough so Shane could hear but hopefully quiet enough the other team couldn’t overhear as she addressed Shane. “Hey, I’ve only got my mankey, togepi, and magby. Depending on how many pokemon we end up battling with, I’m most likely going to use those first two. I’m also more of a coordinator than a trainer, so I’m kind of weak,” she laughed, “but I won’t go down without a fight.”

Confident smile rekindled, she spoke to the entire group. “I’ll begin with my mankey.” Brian, in response, took a couple of steps back towards his trainer. “Speaking of which, how many pokemon are we using? Two each? Three each?” Finley asked.

Everyone seemed to be on board with this impending two-on-two battle. No matter what the atmosphere would be, the young male was always hyped up about a battle. After all, that's exactly what he had come to the island to do. It was the only thing he was ever truly interested in. And to this point in time, you could say that he'd been one heck of a job at it. He does have a gym badge to his credit. That's got to account to for something, doesn't it? Speaking of which, the question of which dorm he should challenge next constantly stirred in the back of his feeble mind. But that's something that he should be concerned about another time. Right now, he needed to get his game face on for this double battle.

Battles like for the fun of it were without a doubt the most enjoyable for him. Especially when it was a battle between friends. Or in this case, those who perhaps were 'would-be' friends. Shane took a moment to analyze the opposition. First, there's Lilith. A bonafide prodigy, and the one who tutored him in all the ins and outs of effective pokemon breeding. He'd be forever grateful for that. And one of these days, he'd ought to consider having a one-on-one battle with her. And then there was Samuel. Of course he'd surely consider taking on a fellow dorm mate. The Kanto native didn't know about the that boy's way of battling, but he sure hoped to learn something right now.

Shane would soon join Finley on their respective side of the custom-made battlefield. His partner was now explaining the specific pokemon she had brought with her for this confrontation, the Mankey being one of them. Her other two were those whom he himself had yet to encounter. The Bolt trainer nodded, acknowledging Finley's disclaimer that she may not be as much of a trainer as he was. Quite frankly, it didn't really matter to him. He just wanted to have himself a good time and gain experience from it. It was then that he realized that he hadn't made any indication as to who he had brought out here with him. Nor did he intend to. Not yet.

He would now explain, in adding to their discussion. "That's cool. Two is fine with me, though I do have a full party here with me today. And don't worry about how we weak you say that you are. Just roll with it. Enjoy it. Live for the moment." After that little number, it was time for Shane to choose his first pokemon for the battle. He grabbed the first pokeball from his belt and tossed it. Lo and behold, it was Grace; a Ralts whom he had only recently acquired in an expedition through the ruins. The boy imagined this to a golden opportunity to rack up some experience for some his newer companions, and a chance to test their abilities.

From what he was able to comprehend from their meeting back in the ruins, he could envision her being an ideal team player. "I'll start with this Ralts here." Shane announced to the group. Grace looked up to her surroundings with a rather confound expression. After a brief analysis of the environment, she had deducted that she wasn't brought out here for a play date. She turned her attention to the Eevee, and then ultimately to her would-be partner in this operation; Finley's Mankey. She gave an odd gesture to everyone - what appeared to be a curtsy. Nonetheless, she was ready.

Samuel had never taken part in a double battle before, though he had a basic understanding from watching his siblings resolve their disputes using Pokémon battles- which, really, before coming to the Academy had been the extent of all his battles. At Lilith's words, he turned and grinned at her. "I'm more than ready," he assured her. He was looking forward to battling alongside her, though he did have one mild concern. She was a Mana Dorm student, and Mana Dorm students on occasion used ghost types.

Well, he would deal with that when- or if- the time came. It wasn't as if the ghost would be his enemy, and it would be good experience for if he eventually decided to challenge a Mana Dorm warden. For the time being he focused on the Pokémon before him. Mankey and Ralts, huh? Well, he knew Riki's only weakness was to fighting types, but he was confident in the Eevee's skill. Besides, if he chose another Pokémon Riki would only try and get in the way. "My Eevee will be my first," he said aloud. Riki crouched, ears twitching in anticipation for the fight.

As for his second Pokémon, Samuel wasn't entirely sure yet. Not Blue or Cinders, that much he was certain of- both were too new to his team. He would more than likely decide on Striker or Hunter. Both had fought well during his gym battle. He was more than certain they would do so again.

"Quick question. Are we using held items?" The question came to mind after remembering all his Pokémon held items. He didn't want to be the only one using items- it would feel like he was cheating.

It was almost time for their battle to start. Lilith took the last couple of minutes to scan over her opponents. Shane was working on becoming a professional Pokemon Trainer someday. She had actually team up with him on a mission supported by the school and she was given the opportunity to study this battling style for a short while. He was indeed a talented trainer, and she couldn't wait to see how much stronger her friend had become overtime. She didn't know too much about Finley. The younger female appeared to have been pretty new to the whole battling scene, but that didn't mean that she should underestimate the other female. She overheard Finley mentioning that she was a coordinator instead of a trainer and she later called her weak. A slight frown spread across her face after hearing those words. Lilith slowly walked over towards Finley and placed her hand gently against her shoulder. "Just because you're a coordinator doesn't mean that you're weak. Coordinator have to work even harder to raise and train their Pokemon. They don't just have to worry about landing attacks, but making those moves look beautiful at the same time, it takes a lot of talent to complete those tasks. You have to be more confident in yourself. You Pokemon feed off of your confidence. If you believe in yourself and your Pokemon then your Pokemon will start to believe in you and themselves, too." She smiled before removing her hand from Finley's shoulder. Lilith's grew up around a lot of coordinators back in her hometown and she knew how much talented was needed to become one. Maybe, during this battle she could prove to Finley that coordinators are just as powerful as trainer. Of course, Lilith wasn't a coordinator, but it was a second career that she had been debating on taking on. 

She stepped away from Finley and made her way back over to her partner. It was almost time to start the battle. Everyone had already chosen their Pokemon, but she had yet to decide on which Pokemon she would like to use first. There were so many options for her to choose from on her team. Finley would be using her Mankey first, which meant that she probably shouldn't use her Deino against it. Shane decided to go with his Ralts, she definitely could use her Pancham against the Psychic/Fairy-type Pokemon. "Two Pokemon each sounds fair enough." She smiled in agreement as she withdrew a Poke Ball from her own. She decided to use her Misdreavus for the first battle. Unaware that her teammate isn't a huge fan of Ghost-types. "I'm going to use my Misdreavus!" She smiled, releasing her Pokemon from her orb. A eerie giggled escaped from the Misdreavus mouth as the precious jewels around her neck started to sparkle the seven colors of the rainbow and her long hair-like extensions flowing effortless in the wind like ribbons. Her Misdreavus was truly mysterious, but elegant and bewitching at the same time. 

"I believe that it should be okay for our Pokemon to have held items. My Misdreavus actually has one right now." She stated, while glancing over at the other students. Hopefully, everyone would agree on using held items.

Santos chuckled lightly as he saw the battle begin. "what do think Scorpio who's gonna win."

Scorpio hissed in thought as he looked at each pokemon. He seemed interested in the Misdreavus but he also looked at the Ralts and the Mankey. He rubbed his claws together then hissed being indecisive

Santos hummed "We'll just have to see who comes out on top and then maybe we can challenge the winners."

Scorpio hissed in excitement. He liked that idea.

Ah, it seemed she’d been overheard. Finley smile softened into one of thanks at Lilith’s words of support, even if she had been reading her a little wrong. Finley was not unconfident in her pokemon and their abilities, nor in her own abilities - not overly confident, this was her first battle and battling trainers was going to be a whole other ball game than wild pokemon, but she fully believed in her pokemon. She knew, however, by training her pokemon for beauty rather than battle, she was sacrificing some of the strength full-on trainers would have. Brian, for instance, knew sunny day only because it was useful in the contests he was to participate in - he didn’t benefit in the slightest from the sunlight. Still, Finley greatly appreciated the respect with which Lilith treated her focus. It left a good impression to see she didn’t underestimate coordination. "Thanks, Lilith, I'll give it my all." She said in parting.

But now it was time to battle. “I’m fine with held items.” Finley said, though she had none. Then, jokingly she yelled, “What do you say loser treats the other to some free lemonade? Of course, by that point you’ll have been torn into pieces! Brian, Vacuum Wave on the eevee!” Finley was just going to go simple right now. Shane hadn't shared anything about his own strategy, but Finley wasn't sure what she could've done with it if he had. She just hoped what she'd said may come in use to him.

Brian took a deep breath, exhaled, and then charged at the normal type pokemon. His readied fist was by his side until he was within range. All of the force in his arm fired off in one swift forward punch at the eevee.
