A little pep talk wouldn't hurt anybody. In this case, Lilith's words of encouragement seemed to have convinced his partner. Everyone was ready to throw down. Wonderful! Shane would rather not waste time with details. But...it would also seem that everyone was at terms with the use of held items. Well, everyone except Shane to be precise. There was always the off chance of at least one person in any group not possessing any at all. What if someone from this group didn't have any? Even an idiot would tell you that it wouldn't be fair to that particular person. Or, worst case scenario, what if his partner didn't have any items!? Why did that other kid have to bring that up for discussion? Sadly, there wouldn't be much of a debate.

"Held items or not, it makes no difference to me." the pro-in-the-making finally answered. That was a lie. Sometimes, the right item made all the difference! This was a cause for concern on the part of the sixteen-year-old Bolt boy, for the sake of fairness. Well, he'll just have to see how much handicap this contest would turn up in the long run. The other competitors didn't hesitate at all to choose their first pokemon. It was no surprise that the younger boy would stick with his Eevee. As for Lilith, a peculiar little ghost pokemon. Understanding the various types of pokemon and their perks was a tactics skill that'd pay off eventually in due time. It was now time for Shane to put that skill to the test.

Oddly enough, it would be Finley to initiate the battle as she ordered her Mankey to attack the Eevee. A good start, considering its type advantage over a normal-type such as Eevee. That left Shane and Grace opposing that ghost. "Getting right down to business, huh? I like that! Alright then...Grace! Use Disarming Voice on that Misdreavus!" By her trainer's command, Grace let out a charming sing-song cry. He's going all in for that free lemonade!

Samuel was dismayed to see his teammate send out a Misdreavus for her first Pokémon, and tried to suppress an involuntary shudder. As it was he inched ever so slightly away, before forcing himself to focus solely on his Eevee. Teammate, not enemy, he told himself. Focus, Sam.

Whether held items were accepted or not, Samuel would not have minded. He simply hadn't wanted to let his Pokémon use their items if they would not be accepted by his fellow students. Unfair advantages, and all. Though, considering most of his Pokémon only had herbs or berries, it wouldn't be too much of an advantage he supposed.

It was Finley and Shane who initiated the battle, and Samuel was not surprised to see Finley have her Mankey target Riki first. The little Eevee gave a small wail as the super-effective attack struck. Fortunately, it appeared that, while devastatingly accurate, the move appeared to be a relatively weak one, at least compared to other Fighting-type moves Samuel had heard of.

Then it was the little Ralts' turn, using an attack Samuel hadn't heard of, aimed at Lilith's Pokémon- which he was trying not to look at. But to Samuel's surprise, the attack was also aimed at Riki, though Shane had not ordered it. Clearly it was a move that struck two opponents at once. But once again Riki sprang back to his paws, growling and determined despite having already taken substantial damage.

"Alright, Riki, show them what you're made of!" Samuel had decided on his first move already, a move he had seen his sisters have their Pokémon use when settling a dispute with their brothers. It was basically the Normal-type version of the same move the Ralts had just used, but Samuel felt no shame in copying. "Use Swift!"

Shaking off the effects of the Mankey's attacks, Riki leapt into the air and waved his tail and sending a number of golden stars at both of his opponents. If Shane wanted to go attacking two Pokémon at once, well so would Samuel.

The double Pokemon battle had official started as all of the trainers released their first Pokemon onto the battlefield. Shortly after releasing their Pokemon, Finley had taken it upon herself kick off the battle with the first move. She had ordered her Mankey to attack Samuel's Eevee. A clever move that showcased Finley's knowledge of move effectiveness. Lilith glanced over at her partner and gave him a thumbs up. She was confident that Samuel and Riki would be more than capable of handling themselves in battle. 

Shane soon followed his partner's lead and ordered his first attack. Lilith smirked a bit a she watched the Ralts release a beautiful song-cry from her small mouth. Mallory stood there floating in the air as the sound waves inflicted damaged onto her body. The Misdreavus barely felt any pain from the attack thanks to her typing and her held item being an Eviolite. 

Lilith took a quick glance over at Samuel and Riki's side of the battle. As she expected the two of them were doing pretty well against their opponent. Riki had managed to endure the super effective attack fairly well and was now releasing his own attack, which held a high chance of hitting both of the opponents. Now, it was time for Lilith to give out her first command. "Mallory use Shadow Ball!" She commanded with a smile. Misdreavus took in a deep breath as she started absorbing darkness from deep within her body. Within seconds, a sparkling purplish-black shadow blob appeared right in front of her. A ghostly cry escaped from Mallory's mouth as she hurled the blob towards the Ralts at high speed.

The battle had started and already some of the students had aptly decided not to pull punches with the mankey going for a no miss Vaccum Wave against an Eevee which was a type effective hit and the Ralts using her sweet voice to nail both opponents with a heart felt tune both moves being of the same type as their users. The Eevee decided to return a same type spreading move of it's own with a Swift attack and Lilith Misdreavus wasn't taking any prisoners either oh no, that Shadow Ball... whistle... Santos knew that was going to leave a mark on the little ralts, not only was it super effective against the dual type Psychic/Fairy but it was also the same type as Misdreavus being a ghost move.

Both Santos and Scorpio were watching with attentive interest. It was kinda like seeing two battle hungry guys holding themselves back from jumping in and taking on opponents themselves

Between the two of them, they seemed to have done some good damage on their opponents. Perhaps all her words of victory would be more than just hot air.

Next, it was her opponent’s turns. Brian wasn’t far from the eevee when he returned fire, and had little time to prepare himself for the attack to hit. Finley recognized the move, if not from the name than from its unique appearance. Swift was a popular move among coordinators, as many pokemon could learn it, and a barrage of golden stars is generally nice to look at. When one is hit with it, however, it can hit hard - and the eevee’s incarnation of the attack meant business. Brian staggered back as he was struck with several of the yellow projectiles.

There are some battles where one must play defensively, making small and safe moves to slowly whittle down one’s opponents. Others, one must rely on luck to land hard hits fast to achieve that win. Now that she had some gauge on her opponent’s strength, seeing the damage the eevee dealt with a non-super effective move split between two opponents, Finley felt that this situation called for the second strategy. “Brian, cross chop on the Eevee!” Finley called.

The mankey shook himself off. Locking eyes on the eevee, he sprang up into the air. His arms, crossed before his face, began to glow white. On impact he would strike with both with a swift chop, hopefully hitting more than air.

Cross chop was much harder to land than Brian’s previous move, but it was significantly more powerful. She felt kind of bad for attacking soly Samuel’s pokemon, whom she had an advantage on, but she was taking this battle seriously and this was the optimal course of action. She also didn’t know how much Brian would do against a ghost type - last time he’d fought one, it hadn’t ended very well.

Well, so much for trying to be a team player. Grace's attack did manage to strike both opposing pokemon, though it didn't seem to do much to that eerie ghost thing from the looks of it. In fact, it didn't even seem to be fazed by the Disarming Voice. There had to be some logical explanation why it wouldn't do as much damage as it normally would. A cause for concern? You bet it was. If Shane would have to take an estimated guess, it would be likely to due to the effects of an held item in which they had agreed to use. Again, anyone who didn't possess any would probably be at considerable disadvantage. Grace, for one, wasn't holding anything at the moment.

The boy waited, fearing the worst as the opposition had commenced their responsive maneuvers. For starters, the Eevee used the 'pretty-and-effective' Swift technique, a move that has been known for never missing its mark. Ever! Not only that, it was a multi-target move as well, much like the Disarming Voice from moments ago. The poor little Ralts had it bad after having taken that hit. Add the super-effective Shadow Ball on top of that, and what do you get? A psychic fairy that's been left worse for wear. And to think that she didn't have a chance to 'support' her teammate. Heal Pulse would have done wonders for that Mankey right about now. Maybe another time.

The Shadow Ball had put Grace down for the count. To be taken out after just one round of action? This would prove a point of emphasis to Shane; that he and Grace would need to work harder on improving her vitality. Either way, it left the Kanto native scratching his head as he proceeded to recall her into her spherical chamber. "Nice try Grace. You'll do even better next time, I'm sure of it." Another point of emphasis was the Misdreavus and Eevee doing a number on his partner as well. It was time to take some serious counter-measures.

To think that he would have to resort to his second pokemon already, it got him thinking. How could his pokemon have been knocked out already? Has he not been working hard enough? Have his pokemon not been training hard enough? Was his victory in the Wave Gym...a fluke!? His face flattened, namely as a result of experiencing this unorthodox yet negative mindset.

On top of all that, what could his partner be thinking? Probably that he's all bark and no bite, perhaps just as weak as she herself claims to be. What could Lilith be thinking? Probably that she would've expected more from the one person who showed her as much about battling as anyone. Most importantly, what would Lithra think if she were spectating this battle right now? Most likely, bitter disappointment. Besides, nobody likes a loser.

Shane would have to force himself to cast these painful thoughts aside for the time being as he dispatched his next pokemon. It was Gladius, the ever stoic Pawniard. Knowing full well what his purpose was - to fight - he stood readily awaiting the boy's command. "Okay Gladius, we've gotta pick up some major slack here." Not a sound. Not a peep would come from the swiss army knife with legs. He was ready. " Finley and her Mankey continued to pound on the Eevee, so he would maintain his focus on that pesky ghost. "Use Night Slash on the Misdreavus! Go!" And so he went to slice and dice that ethereal creature.

Samuel couldn't help but grin as Riki's attack struck both opponents- though, of course, he had known it would. The little Eevee was a resilient critter, and his ability made his Normal-type attacks devastating. Still, Samuel looked forward to the day he evolved, whatever evolution he might end up with.

His partner seemed to have a decent grasp of the Ralts' weaknesses, as her Pokémon- he was still trying to avoid looking at it, or even thinking of what type it was, and so missed Lilith's thumbs up- struck with a familiar move that appeared to be super effective. Shadow Ball. His Houndour knew that attack.

But whilst he had been distracted by the attack on the Ralts, Finley's Mankey had launched an attack of its own, and the first Samuel knew about it was when Riki gave a pained cry. He turned back in time to see the Eevee collapsing from what had presumably been a stronger super effective attack. He was clearly unable to continue fighting, and Samuel had no inclination to force him to.

"Great job, Riki," he praised as he called the Eevee back to his ball. "You rest up for a bit."

He felt no concerns about his Pokémon being defeated so easily. Taking two super effective attacks was no easy feat, and in any case, Samuel knew he and Riki had done their best, even if they had only landed a single attack. That was what he felt should matter most- it was something he had picked up with his first gym battle. Now he had to focus on his next Pokémon. He narrowed his eyes at the Pokémon on the field. The Ralts was down, replaced now by Pawniard. He had no idea what type it was, though if he had to guess, he'd say it was Steel. Since he didn't know the Mankey's weaknesses, he decided to choose something that would, hopefully, be a suitable match against both Pokémon. Unfortunately, he wasn't aware of the Pokémon he had chosen also having a weakness to Fighting types.

"Hunter! Let's go!" The Houndour appeared with a furious snarl, eager for battle. No doubt Shane and Lilith would recognise him- Hunter was almost always Samuel's companion during classes- though he acted like a completely different Pokémon compared to his calm, obedient attitude in class. In a split-second decision, Samuel decided to get a little revenge for his fallen Eevee. "Let's show that Mankey what you're made of, eh boy? Flamethrower!"

Hunter growled, almost as if agreeing with Samuel, and opened his mouth, sending a long stream of red-orange fire towards the monkey Pokémon.

A pleasing smirk touched Lilith's lips as she watched her Misdreavus take down Shane's Ralts. She wasn't surprised that the attack manage to take it down in one hit. She knew that even through Ralts could hit hard whenever it comes down to firing special attacks, it was still a bit fragile on the defensive side. "Nice work Mallory, that's one down." She praised her Pokemon. The Misdreavus gave her trainer a small wink before letting around another crackling laugh.

While Lilith was waiting for Shane to release his second Pokemon, the dark-haired female turned her attention towards Finley and Samuel's side of the battle. Her piercing blue eyes soon widen as she watched Finley's Monkey rush towards Samuel's Eevee with a Cross Chop.. Not only was the attack super effective, but it was a powerful move on its own. She knew that Samuel's Eevee wouldn't stand a chance, if the attack hit its mark. Lilith clenched a bit as she heard the painful cry escape from Riki's mouth. The poor little Eevee must have been in a lot of pain. Riki managed to put up a good fight, but he soon fell to the strong Cross Chop. Now, Samuel would have to use his next Pokemon. A few seconds passed and Samuel had released his Houndour. A shock expression spread over Lilith's face as stared at the Houndour. She didn't expect for her partner to send out another Pokemon that would be weak against fighting-type moves. Perhaps her partner had a brilliant idea or something. She would just have to trust him and focus her attention back onto her side of the field. 

Shane had finally released his next Pokemon. It was his Pawinard. One of the Pokemon that she had recalled Shane using during their mission. Gladius' sharp blades were definitely something to fear. However, Lilith wasn't too intimidated by the Pawinard. It was mostly due to a secret little trick that her Misdreavus had hidden deep inside of her. A few seconds passed and Shane had given out his order. "Mallory, stand your ground!" She commanded her Pokemon. Mallory nodded her head before standing her ground. The Night Slash did a good amount of damage and even it even caused Mallory to let out a small cry. Unfortunately for Shane and his Pokemon, Mallory still had a lot of fight left inside of her. At the same time, one more Night Slash would probably take her down.

"That was a good move, Shane." Lilith complimented her friend. "Check out our next move." She smirked before turning her attention back onto her Pokemon. "Mallory, use Destiny Bond!" She commanded out loud. A beautiful, yet eerie azure glow soon engulf Mallory's body and within seconds the glow transformed into a blinding beam of light, rushing straight towards both Shane and Finley's Pokemon. The light itself wouldn't deal any damage, but it would tie Gladius and Hunter's souls to Mallory. If either one of the Pokemon attacks Mallory and causes her to faint then the attacking Pokemon would faint right along with her.

Santos hummed as he watched the attacks connect and trade damage and Mallory, Lilith Misdreavus handled the Night Slash but Lilith decided to switch to a destiny bond move and put up a threat that if Mallory was going down the attacker was going down with it. On the other side the Mankey had managed to beat the eevee with a cross chop, no real surprise there and now a Houndour was back in play and had used Flamethrower. Santos hummed he knew dark types were weak to fighting type moves and houndours weren't exactly known for their defensive game. One good Cross Chop and that Houndour was down for the count even if it had an item to boosts it's defenses... hopefully that Flamethrower would be strong enough to roast the monkey...

Brian was indeed a roasted monkey. After a moment of celebration at the befalling of the Eevee, the mankey was hit with a pillar of fire via the new pokemon on the field. At first, Brian blocked the blow with raised arms, but the power of the attack was too much. His defenses broken, his fur now singed, the mankey gave a final grunt before falling over, unconscious.

“You did well, Brian.” Finley stated, returning what was her strongest pokemon to his pokeball. She smiled at the boy across the field. “Nice one, Samuel, but now it’s my turn.” Finley Snatched one of the two pokeballs in her shoulder bag and tossed it into the air. With a flash of light, Carpe Diem the Togepi appeared on the field.

A sly grin came to Finley’s lips as she now turned to her other opponent, Lilith. “You may have my partner trapped, but I can still knock out your pokemon.” If her last move was a gamble, this one would be even more so. Diem, despite being a fairy type, knew mostly fighting type moves. Those didn’t work on ghost types, and so she was left with a risky option. “Diem, use metronome!” She called.

The togepi shot a glare at her enemies as she hopped from foot to foot, waving her stubby arms in the air. This was fitting, because as her move manifested itself, her face twisted into a menacing scowl, the type that would befit a dragon far more than the baby pokemon. From her rage came a blast of red energy, shot at the misdreavus. Finley didn’t recognize the move, and so couldn’t name it, but she thought it looked powerful enough.

Gladius had managed to deliver an emphatic blow on that ghost, and Brian the Mankey succeeded in felling the young Eevee. That was a good sign of hope for the sixteen-year-old Bolt student. Their team was finally getting somewhere in this fight. But what was to come after that had taken the Kanto native by complete surprise. Destiny Bond? That was a unique move. It wouldn't hurt now, but whoever decided to try and land the final blow on the Misdreavus would end up feeling as much pain as that thing would.

Gladius's body was now linked to that of the Misdreavus as well as the newly dispatched Houndour. This certainly would result in impending disaster for the human-like blade bearer. "That...that could be trouble..." Shane thought aloud. Gladius, unsure of what was going on, could only look on with a look of utter confusion.

Meanwhile, the dark-and-fire-type pokemon unleashed a vicious breath of flames at the Mankey. Perhaps more vicious than it would normally appear. Again, this was likely due to an effect of a held item or ability. Or maybe both? Either way, it spelled the end for the poor little pig monkey. Finley's next pokemon, which Shane's pokedex would later indentify as a Togepi, would attack next; targeting the peculiar ghost-type. "Wait a minute..."

Bingo! Having just entered the battle, it wasn't 'bonded' with either of their opponents. A smart move indeed! Sure, she claimed to have been weak, but the boy could say she was much more tactical than inferior. Metronome was a rather risky, randomizing moves by mere chance. It turned up as Dragon Rage, a relatively inferior move in itself. It didn't seem to be enough to put down that ghost though. "Nice one, Finley!" he praised his partner.

Shane was at an impasse. If he were to try attacking either opponent again this turn, he would risk his last pokemon getting knocked out due to that bond's effects. "Gotta play it safe...alright Gladius, use Swords Dance!" The Pawniard commenced in conducting an unorthodox hand motion, as if he sharpening actual blades, or the blades on his arms that is. Perhpas sharper swords would hurt inflict some more damage later.

Hunter gave a pleased yip as the Mankey fell, while Samuel grinned, unaware of the potential disaster that had just been averted. "That was a tough one," he commented, glad he had chosen Charcoal as his held item after his first gym battle- it certainly had powered up Hunter's Fire-type moves. He half-wished the battle was already over so he could give the Houndour some well-earned fuss. But for now he had other things occupying his attention- namely his partner, and those they faced.

While he still avoided looking at the Misdreavus, he did hear the name of Lilith's next attack. Destiny Bond. It wasn't a move he could say he was familiar with, but the name seemed to say it all. And it seemed to be affecting Hunter as well as the Pawniard. Not that that mattered too much to him- Samuel had no intention of attacking his teammate, and Hunter didn't know any moves that would accidentally hurt his partner.

Finley's next Pokémon- a Togepi, apparently- was using another move he hadn't heard of before. Metronome. He soon got the idea of what it did though, as the Pokémon attacked Mallory with what appeared to be a Dragon-type move. It seemed kind of ironic to Samuel for the Togepi to be using a move it was immune to.

Meanwhile the Pawniard appeared to be sharpening the blades on its arms. That didn't look good, though Samuel wasn't too concerned for Hunter. Still, he was somewhat unsure about who to attack. Did he go after the Togepi, the only Pokémon still capable of attacking the Misdreavus without issue, or did he target the Pawniard and make use of the type advantage before it could get any stronger?

Samuel decided it was best to make use of the type advantage. After all, Shane and Finley were on their second Pokémon, like him- if he could take out one of their Pokémon, then he and Lilith could team up against the other, and he suspected a powered up super effective hit would be more than enough to handle a steel-type.

"Sorry to do this to you Shane!" he called. "Hunter, Flamethrower on the Pawniard!"

Hunter barked and repeated the same attack he had used before, aimed straight at the Pawniard.

Lilith smiled as she watched Shane order his Pokemon to use a stat raising move instead of going for an actual attack that would deal damage. She wasn't surprised that he would not have his Pokemon attack her Misdreavus. The male Bolt Dorm Student was definitely playing it safe for now. 

She turned her attention towards the other side of the battlefield. Her deep blue eyes lighting pup a bit she noticed her partner had manage to take out the Mankey. "Nice one, Samuel." She smiled at her partner while nodding her head at him. She was a little nervous about Samuel using another dark-type against the Mankey, but he prove to her that he knew what he was doing in their battle and she could ask for anything more. 


Lilith's attention quickly changed from Samuel, after hearing a small cry escape from her own Pokemon. The Togepi had managed to land a quick hit on Mallory. Luckily, it wasn't enough to not her Pokemon out. Mallory was now left severely weakened. "Hang in there Mallory." She spoke calmly to her Pokemon as she started reassessing the threat on the battlefield. The Pawniard was a true threat know that his attack had been increased during his last turn. However, one hit from Hunter's Flamethrower would be more than enough to take him out. She just had to trust that her partner would go after the Pawniard during his next turn.

A few seconds passed and it was Samuel's turn again. A huge smirked curved against Lilith's mouth as she listened to Samuel command his Pokemon to attack the Pawniard. Perfect, the real threat was now off of the battlefield. There odds were definitely in their favor now. It was 2 vs 1 Pokemon battle now. Not to mention that Lilith still had another fully healed Pokemon left to use in battle. "Mallory use Pain Split!" She commanded. Mallory let out a loud screech as she shared her pain with the Togepi. The Pain Split would allow Mallory to add her HP to the target's HP, then equally share the combined HP with the target. Basically, Mallory's HP will become restored and Togepi's health will decrease by a good deal.

Santos hummed as he watched the fight continue. The Houndour Hunter proving to be quite the hotdog using flamethrower to toast their opponents, Santos counted one down and one about to get roasted and with the Lilith's Misdreavous Mallory going after the Togepi it would be down two... no wait three to one with damage as Lilith still had the ability to use a fully healthy pokemon so that even if the Togepi was able to beat Mallory. Lilith still had one pokemon left. It was clear who side was going to end up on top but all had played well. It was a good show and worth watching

Scorpio was getting eager to fight. That Mallory was one tough ghost and he was in the mood to take her on. He rubbed his claws together and got ready to move in by leaping off of Santo's shoulder however a pinch on his tail would stop him

"Chill Scorpio once they finish then we make our move okay." Santos stated as he held the scorpion's tail "but if they say no we walk away got it."

Scorpio hissed a comment of displeasure but then clicked his jaws and hissed in an even tone signalling that he would obey Santos.

It hadn’t been enough to take out the misdreavus. To make matters worse, the ghost-type then attacked Diem with what looked like a healing and damaging move. Finley had seen similar moves - drain punch, absorb, but this one she didn’t recognize. Whatever it was, it did a number on the togepi. The little egg pokemon gasped and slouched as the once-weakened misdreavus again grew powerful. Fire shot from the other pokemon at Shane’s - the same attack that had done in Brian. Would it be enough to defeat her teammate's pokemon? She really hoped not. She’d be fighting both Samuel’s and Lilith’s pokemon.

Which, come to think of it, Lilith was still on her first pokemon.

Finley could see where this fight was going. Before her laid two options: attack the fire type pokemon and be left with one enemy to face or try to take out the powerful - but still weakened - ghost type. Or, there was a third option; if she was probably going to lose this fight via standard means, she could gamble on the off chance of metronome coming through.

Her choice was obvious. For a moment, the realization that the fight was near futile flashed across her face, before she replaced it with a proud grin. Stance wide, one hand on her hip, one hand pointing in the direction of her foes, she declared; “Carpe Diem! Metronome on Misdreavus!”

The togepi hopped from foot to foot and waved her stubby arms, and - used taunt. Diem glared daggers at the ghost type and beckoned her to come and fight.

Finley sighed and dropped her arm. Well, that was probably it. That didn’t mean she couldn’t go out with a bang, though! As long as Diem stood, Finley would continue to try her best. Who knew, maybe they’d weather another attack and have one last chance to make a move.
