Others would describe Karin as a confident flirt - at least she would be a flirt if she meant anything she said. She just wanted to make people happy and if that meant showering them in compliments, then so be it. And she didn't care what people thought of her or her flirting. She knew who she was; others simply did not.
Untidy was another word used to describe Karin - a word that couldn't be truer. Her room back home was a complete mess, all the time. Even if Karin could bring herself to clean her room, it would just become a wreck again in minutes. Now she just excuses herself with, "it's an orderly mess."
Speaking about feelings, emotions, or anything like that didn't come naturally to Karin. She'd rather shove all of that into a locker and just not deal with it. Because underneath it all was an insecure, lonely, and aimless girl. Karin kept this vulnerable side of her carefully hidden from the world. There's simply no need for it after all.

History:
The middle child of three, Karin had a relatively normal childhood. Well, except her older sister was a prodigy trainer and her younger brother was some sort of pokémon whisper. Karin was stuck in the middle, literally and figuratively. Her parents loved their three children equally, but fell short of encouraging Karin the way they did the other two. She didn't really have a talent to encourage, so she tried to stand out in her own way.
Her own way, however, was being a prankster of sorts. She stuck gum in her brother's hair, glued her sister's notebook shut, and lied to her parents about her misdeeds. Her list of mischief grew and this gave her quite the reputation of a troublemaker. She was finally getting the attention she wanted though, even if it was negative. Anything attention became acceptable to Karin.
She eventually grew out of it as she became older. Karin started to accept herself, started to accept she'll find her talent one day. She wanted to support her siblings in their talents, happy that they were doing what they loved. But the damage had been done. No one really trusted Karin. She was a troublemaker, a liar, and a nuisance. They were waiting for one of her pranks to jump out and startle them, or spray them with paint, or hit them right in the face.
Karin had accidentally made a rift between her and her family. It was ridiculous, she had been a dumb, jealous child that needed to mature, but they still avoided her like the some disease. They made up excuses to not talk to her, to not sit down and eat with her. She became awfully lonely as her peers wanted nothing to do with her either. Home became an isolated box she needed to escape from, until she met him.
He was a cute little thing, much too small for this world. He was a baby Skiddo she found lost and scared in one of the many alleys of Lumiose City. Karin didn't know where he came from or how he came into the city, but she decided she would be his mother now. She named him Basil. Her family barely noticed Basil's arrival as her brother let pokémon into the house all the time. With Basil around, Karin felt a little less lonely.
When the opportunity to attend Gray Haven Academy appeared, she jumped at it and applied to the school. Sure, she'd have to move to Harmonia Island and leave her family, but they didn't seem to want her around anyway. She took this as a chance to reinvent herself, faking confidence she didn't have. And maybe she would find her calling at the academy. Making some friends would be added bonus.
