Personality: Tristan is not very social. Upon meeting someone new, he watches them intently. He does this in the hopes of figuring out what sort of person they are. He does this because of a long-held belief that most people are terrible and would gladly turn on him for personal benefit. However, this intense scrutiny doesn’t last long. He’s terrible at reading a person’s intentions. He’s also terrible at talking to anyone new and can never say the right thing.
Once he feels he understands the basics of a person, Tristan either wants to know more about said person or absolutely despises them. Unfortunately, there is no easy way to distinguish which is which, as both involve scathing remarks and an incredible amount of sarcasm. When he doesn’t hate the person, the jokes are said with a sly smile and with the intention of testing the person’s sense of humor, which Tristan values above all other personality traits. Of course, when he does hate the victim, his remarks are said with a sneer and absolutely no warmth.
However, even with all his faults, Tristan does have a soft side and morals. He cares deeply for his Pokémon and those he counts among his friends. If he sees someone in trouble, he doesn’t hesitate to try and help. And, most importantly so far as he is concerned, he won’t break his word even for the sake of a joke. Of course, these things are not very well known. As such, he doesn’t hold a positive reputation. While that isn’t exactly encouraging, Tristan is more than willing to try and change it one friend at a time.

History: Tristan had been born somewhere in Kanto. He couldn’t remember where. His first memory was a man he knew to be his father saying that they would see each other soon. Strangely enough, that was the last time Tristan ever saw him. His next memory was in his home in Cherrygrove City. He had fallen and smacked his head on the kitchen counter. This event is what “jumpstarted” him, so far as he is concerned, not that it’s important. What he can’t remember is why the other children in Cherrygrove didn’t like him. As he grew older he could tell more clearly that he wouldn’t get along with them, but he always wondered what the initial problem was. Whatever it was, it served the purpose of getting him interested in Pokémon.
Since Tristan had no friends, he would often find himself imagining fantastic journeys to go on. His imaginings were nothing compared to the stories of traveling Trainers, though. They sounded so magical to Tristan, and they were real! His interest only grew when his mother told him how his father had been a trainer as well. And when she told him that he could possibly go to the same academy as his father had went to, Tristan nearly died from excitement. He did everything in his power to convince her that he should go one day.
A few years later, Tristan gave his mother a hug goodbye. They both knew they wouldn’t see each other for a while, but that was okay with both of them. Tristan had worked hard to be able to go, and he was ready for the chance to learn even more. It wasn’t until he had already left that Tristan realized that he would have to deal with a great amount of people at the academy.
He stared off into the horizon, wondering if he had just made a huge mistake.
