She knew this place was hot, but somehow she managed to underestimate just how hot. She got the feeling she would have been able to handle it better if she’d come here as soon as she moved in, but another part of her wondered if living in a village nestled by a volcano really wouldn’t have helped her that much. Bleh…

At least she’d been smart enough to bring some water and wear a wet towel on her head. The towel was almost dry at this point, but it had provided at least a little relief. A water type would have been better, but she didn’t have one of those just yet. Maybe she should have done that first?

Whatever she should or shouldn’t have done, it was too late to go back on things now. Not without making an honest effort. She intended to search a little while longer – just until she found something or her water ran out. Then she’d head home, recover, and try again if needed.

It wasn’t long before movement caught her eye, and she watched as a shape seemed to almost materialize out of nowhere in front of her. She knew the reality was much more mundane than that – the Sandile had either unburied itself from the sand, come over a dune, or maybe it had been there the entire time and she only noticed it because it moved.

And now it was quickly moving toward her. Eep!

“Hematite, come on!” She released her Honedge from her pokeball. “Sacred Sword!”

The Honedge rushed at the wild Pokemon and slashed it as soon as she was close enough. The Sandile attempted to retaliate with some rather impressive Thrashing…fortunately, Hematite was a ghost type and the move didn’t seem to bother her.

Toni let out a breath she didn’t know she’d been holding up until that moment. “Good job, Hematite. Let’s try Sacred Sword again.”

The Honedge slashed at the Sandile for a second time, and the Sandile after that the Sandile seemed to have a little trouble moving. Toni frowned at that. Had she gone too far? But then the Sandile opened its mouth and spat out a stream of mud at the Honedge. Maybe not…it was still able to fight.

She thought she’d weakened it enough, so she tossed a pokeball at the wild Pokemon. The ball shook wildly, and Toni thought the creature would surely escape, but it eventually settled, and she was able to claim her new Pokemon and head somewhere cooler.

Sandile was caught!
