It was a pretty day out. Clear sky, clean air. All in all, it was a healthy day to be out. Sophia had decided, while she was at the academy, that she would primarily focus on bettering herself as a trainer and breeder. This would free up her schedule to properly indulge in these things, but also to help ensure her mind didn't get cluttered. Honestly speaking, though she was still bettering herself, this was also a sort of vacation. It was a fact she realized after the point.

”Well, I still need to meet that roommate, though.” Supposedly, her roommate had yet to be determined. She would have one, by the end of the day apparently, but paperwork and other nonsense had yet to be completed. Well, whatever. She'd hopefully find them after her stroll ended. In the meantime, she stretched her arms out over her head. Despite the sun beaming down, she didn't feel too terrible.

Now she just needed to decide whether or not to stroll with Cotton or Cloud. Though, if she let one out, wouldn't something appear? Though, if something did, would that necessarily be a bad thing?

It was shortly after Sophia released Cotton from his ball that something slightly odd appeared. It was. . . something. Sophia couldn't really come up with the right words to describe it. It was like a genetic amalgam without truly defining features. Using her little PokeDex thing, she revealed the thing to be a Dunsparce. It didn't seem to be terribly dangerous, so she'd stand her ground and attempt to catch it.

”Cotton, get ready. Cotton Guard.” The best offense was a good defense, right? The Mareep wobbled before his coat of wool exploded outward, making him look drastically larger. Additionally, it increased his resilience to physical attacks. Meanwhile, the Dunsparce, noticing the explosion of fluff, seemed to become very angry and Raged at the Mareep! The blow connected, but it didn't seem to have much of an effect. That was the virtue of Cotton Guard.

”Again! Make sure it won't hurt!” A second Cotton Guard was prepared, and the Mareep's wool blasted out further, making him look like a comically constructed wool-ball than an actual, living thing. In response, the Dunsparce shot forward and recklessly tackled Cotton! The blow was powerful, but most of the power was absorbed into the Mareep's armor of wool. Additionally, somehow or another, the Dunsparce seemed to lightly hurt itself? Odd.

”Let's go on the offensive! Cotton, use Discharge!” With a somewhat lackluster “Meh”, the sheep began to sparkle and crackle as electricity surged from his body and into his wool, effectively giving him a wool-fro. Then, a wave of electricity shot forward and swept over the area, bathing the Dunsparce in lightning! It was a solid attack, Sophia thought, but the Dunsparce just. . . lowered itself slightly and rested on the ground, healing itself. That. . . that wasn't fair at all. Puffing her cheeks out, she shook her head.

”Again! Discharge!” A second electric wave blasted forward, shocking the Dunsparce! Additionally, it seemed as though the thing was suffering some kind of motor malfunction? The Dunsparce was very twitchy afterward, though it did try to attack again. It was another powerful blow, and it seemed that Cotton might have had issues taking another two like that. Sophia chewed her lip. She wasn't going to lose to the first wild Pokemon she properly fought. That would be absolutely pathetic. She wasn't going to be so horribly mediocre to fail that badly.

”Cotton, Charge.” The Mareep let out a somewhat confident “Meh-heh~” to that order and began to sparkle again as his body built up a charge. The next electric move would be twice as powerful. Hopefully, the doubled Discharge would pack enough of a sudden punch to finish the Dunsparce off before it healed itself. And then it seemed that fortune smiled on them. The Dunsparce tried to attack, but its body froze up entirely, as though paralyzed.

”Go for it, Cotton! Discharge!” The next Discharge was frightening, to say the least. The current was twice as powerful and, for the sunflowers that had yet to be effected, it practically fried the things. Sunflowers? More like Doneflowers. As for the Dunsparce? It was, instead, a Donesparce. With her legs quivering a little, her heart pounding, and her fingertips having prickly sensations, the young maiden lobbed a ball at the Dunsparce, letting out a sigh of relief as it clicked shut and captured the Pokemon.

Her first Pokemon battle was a success. Not an easy one, but a success. Now they both had to get stronger.
