One meal and one quick nap later, and Luke was back just like he promised himself. Once again, Stripe was following behind him. This time, though, he’d brought River instead of Midnight. Maybe the water type would make a certain Pokemon drop its guard and approach.

Luke led his pair of Pokemon through the plant, watching as close as he could for any Pokemon that might approach him. Maybe this time would work out better than the last. Granted, the last time hadn’t gone badly. Not really. It just hadn’t granted what he wanted. That was fine, though. A Pokemon like the one he was hunting was worth a few extra attempts.

Wonderful…another one.

Well, a Pokemon was a Pokemon. If nothing else, it might be a good gift for one of his teammates. He nodded to River, and she hopped toward the ball-shaped Pokemon, speaking to it in various intonations and random orders of syllables that made up her species name. Luke wasn’t sure how Pokemon could understand each other, walking like that, but it apparently worked. The Voltorb responded to him, and the two had what seemed to be a very deep, involved conversation. He watched them, absently petting Stripe while he waited to see if the Voltorb wanted to join the team or not.

Finally, the pair of Pokemon approached him. River croaked at him, and he tossed an empty pokeball at the Voltorb. The ball wobbled and fell still, and he went to retrieve it before leading his partners back home. So much for getting anything useful done this week.
