This place was getting way too familiar, but it seemed the most likely spot to capture the Pokemon he was going after now. He had Leaf and Stripe with him again – Leaf, at least, was going to be his main buddy for a good while yet, and Stripe had a particular talent he needed, and the two Pokemon were weaving through the flowers, chasing each other in circles around him. Part of him thought it was annoying, but the rest of him found it endearing. At least, he was glad his Pokemon seemed to get along.

He stopped by the lake as always and sat down, waiting. Something was sure to come his way soon.

Well, that was easy. Before long, the very thing he’d been looking for came to the lake to drink. Luke, vaguely aware of what he was supposed to be doing, approached the Togepi and drank alongside it. Luke watched the two, stroking Stripe’s fur. Togepi was a baby Pokemon, if he remembered correctly. That meant it was likely to be friendly as long as Leaf was. No problem there – most of his Pokemon were friendly by default, and he was trying to train niceness into the few that weren’t.

The two Pokemon finished drinking, but the Togepi lost its balance as it tried to stand back up and ended up falling into the water. Luke stood and approached the two, but Leaf was faster – jumping in after it and trying to push it back onto land. The poor Snivy suffered a couple accidental blows to the face from the fairy type’s failing arms before Luke could reach them and pull the Togepi out of the water, but the blows didn’t seem to hurt him all that much. At least, he was able to pull himself out of the water without incident.

“Well, that happened…” Luke cradled the trembling Togepi and glanced down at Leaf. “Are you all right?”

“Sniv!” Leaf bobbed his head up and down a couple times.

“Good, and well done.” He gestured back the way they’d come as Stripe bounded toward the group. “Let’s go.” He led hi Pokemon back home, still cradling the Togepi despite the fact that it was starting to realize it was safe and calming down. He was probably going to get laughed at, but that was fine. No one would laugh once the little guy was properly trained up.
