Toni returned to the forest, this time making her way through a different part of it. Maybe the Pokemon around this way would be friendlier than the one she’d encountered last time. This time she’d brought Hematite with her, though the ghostly sword was resting in her pokeball for the moment. Her presence was a comfort, but the longer she stayed on the island the less she found she needed that reassurance.

She came to a tree with a low branch and climbed up, hoping to get a better view of her surroundings. The view was arguable worse with all the leaves, but at least she could see a little farther head and around her. She leaned against the trunk, trying to make herself as comfortable as possible. She’d stay here to rest for a little while, but if nothing came to her she’d jump back down and keep moving. The wild Pokemon couldn’t elude her forever.

Something floated right up near her, and she yelped and started, almost falling out of the tree. She sent out Hematite, who floated protectively in front of her like always. Now that she was safe, she studied the thing that had startled her. It looked like a shadow possessing a hollowed-out tree branch…which was really kind of cool.

The wild Pokemon stared at her and Hematite, but didn’t seem to be the hostile type. It was just…staring. With those creepy/cool reddish eyes. It looked a little sad.

She held a hand out toward the wild Pokemon, who flinched and backed up. Hematite backed up as well – probably sensing that Toni wasn’t scared anymore. Toni climbed down the tree and sat down against the trunk, waiting to see if the probable ghost type would follow and smiling when it did.

“See? No danger here.” She held out her hand again, and this time the Pokemon approached. “How would you like to come with us? You seem to be a ghost type, so you’d fit right in at the dorm. You’d also have quite a few friends, so you wouldn’t have to be lonely.”

“Phaaaaantump?” the wild Pokemon responded. So it was a Phantump? She’d have to look them up later.

For now, she glanced toward Hematite, who approached and floated around their companion. The Phantump circled her in turn, and Toni’s smile widened. They seemed okay with each other, maybe even friendly. She tossed an empty pokeball at the Phantump then and watched as it shook and fell still. Once she was sure the capture completed, she returned Hematite to her pokeball and headed home.
