One light meal and brief rest later and Toni was back on the beach. She’d surely find what she was looking for this time! It surprised her that it was taking this long, but that was probably to be expected since they were supposedly rare.

She stopped on the shore and released Quartz from her pokeball before moving into the water, the Dewgong using Surf to keep the both of them afloat. She stared around as they made their way away through the water. Why was such a large Pokemon so hard to find, anyway? Perhaps she needed some glasses or something…

At first, this seemed to be another fruitless endeavor. Then an odd blue shape rose from the water, and both she and Quartz stopped as the shape continued its ascent, revealing an elegant blue head and long neck. There was no mistaking it – she’d found the very thing she’d been looking for!

And…it was a bit scary in person.

She sent out Hematite – the Doublade had always made her feel braver when she was nervous – and she urged Quartz forward. Hematite floated head of her, circling the Lapras’ neck and lifting herself to eye level.

Unfortunately, the Lapras took the approaching team as a threat, and an Ice Beam was sent Hematite’s way. The Doublade was knocked back as the beam hit, and it took a moment for her to recover and shake off the attack.

“Hematite, Sacred Sword.” Toni winced – she really hadn’t wanted to fight the Lapras, just befriend it.

Hematite had no such hangups – she slashed at the Lapras, who cried out, glared at the Doublade a moment, and then lowered her head down to Toni’s level.

Eep!

But the glaring ceased. It stared at Toni for a long moment, and then…seemed to dip its head to her, inching it close enough for her to touch. She glanced from Quartz to Hematite, and reached out to stroke the Lapras’ nose when they didn’t seem worried. So…had it just wanted to test her? Did this mean she passed?

Toni tossed a pokeball at the Lapras, and Quartz swam forward to retrieve it as it pulled the Lapras inside and fell into the water.. The Dewgong returned the pokeball to Toni, and she held it until the capture completed. Then Quartz nudged her back to the shore and the team made their way back home.
