[Karin Cantrell]

What was she looking for again? Karin had wandered into the library after exploring the campus. She felt like taking a little stroll around the school, so she walked around aimlessly and found herself in the library. Deciding she had enough exploring for today, Karin suddenly wanted to read something - which was odd because she wasn't much of a reader. She paced between the bookshelves, looking up and down for something. Maybe a history book featuring Harmonia Island? Oh, did they have a fantasy section? Science fiction would be acceptable as well. 

Before she knew it, she walked into a book cart full force, sending it towards another bookshelf. The cart hit the bookshelf with a loud crash as Karin doubled over. This library has betrayed me, was all Karin thought before the deed happened. Thankfully, the bookshelf didn't fall over, but Karin sure did.

Onto the floor, a Karin laid. She was face down and in pain. Karin would have learned the library's flooring intimately if she hadn't shut her eyes. Only a few groans of pain left her body. (Her body seemed to have forgotten it was in the library, a quiet place for learning. How rude.)

Seeing the girl lye down on the floor, Makai thought he recognized her from somewhere. After he saw her fall, he ran over to her in order to make sure she was alright. "Hey, are you OK?!"

He saw the book all over the place and began to pick them up. They'd landed everywhere and that was no look for a library. "So what would your name be?" Makai was trying to be nice again, as that was just who he was when he first met someone. He only hoped the wouldn't fall over again. As he asked, he was putting books back on the shelves.

"I'm fine," she said, though her voice was just a little bit strained. Karin managed to lift herself up off the ground and huffed. "I just had a small accident, that's all." She stood up, brushed off her clothes, and turned to the boy. Karin examined him, finding him shorter than her. Was he a kid? Couldn't be. Nonetheless, she looked around and noticed the mess she had made. A sigh left her lips as she picked some books up and put them on the shelves. 

"My name's Karin." She glanced over at him, slightly ashamed for the mess. It was an accident, but still she should've been paying more attention to where she was walking. "What's yours?"

He smiled again at the girl who had introduced herself as Karin. "My name's Makai. Most people call be Kai though. Easier to say." He could see her wondering if he was a kid or not and he sighed. "And I can see you asking how old I am. Believe it or not, I'm fifteen years old."

He sighed and once he had finished placing the books on the shelf went to sit down on a beanbag. "So, what dorm would you be in?" He was curious. He swore he'd seen her somewhere before but couldn't put his finger on where...

"Oh, no! I didn't--" It was just a passing thought; she hadn't meant it to be evident on her face. She gave him an apologetic smile. "I'm sorry, Kai." Hopefully, she hadn't offended him too much - she wanted to make some friends. "You're the same age as me! We have something in common already!" She blurted out. Karin slapped herself internally. She had better things to say than that, but for now, she decided to quiet down. They were in a library after all.

She chose to stand when he sat on the beanbag, preferring to keep on her feet. "I'm in Nature! I just, uh, love trees, you know?" Karin answered him. "And I bet you're in the Cutie Dorm." And now she just felt ridiculous, though she didn't let it show. Instead, she just winked at him, hoping it didn't seem awkward. First, being noisy in a library, and now flirting in said library? She was on a roll for weird choices.

He shook his head when she apologized. "There's no reason to apologize. Most people think I'm younger than I am." He laughed a bit when she said that this was something they had in common. It was true, but it was an interesting way to think about it. He didn't want to say anything on this reply.

When she said she thought he was in the cutie dorm, Makai did a cross between laugh and blush. He'd never thought of himself like that before - he was always the midget and getting teased for it when he was younger. In the end, though, he decided to skim over that comment for the moment and go back to the subject of the dorms. "Well, that's something else we have in common. I'm also in the Nature Dorm." He was still feeling slightly embarrassed, so he decided not to say anything else for the time being.

"Oh, we're Nature buddies then!" Excitement overcame Karin. She knelt besides Makai and slung her arm around his shoulders, probably overstepping some boundaries - they just met and she was already touching him. While Karin invaded his personal bubble, she started talking. "What kind of pokémon do you have? I have a Skiddo, and he's a handful when he's full of energy - and he's full of it all the time. I found him in a trashcan, by the way. I also have a Spritzee, but she doesn't really like me yet. I'll make her come around soon! You just wait!"

She came to a stop, realizing she was probably talking his ear off. She laughed awkwardly. Oh no, I said too much, didn't I? She thought. Karin was sure making the situation continuously awkward. Never mind that she was still in his personal bubble. "Anyway, we'll have to hang out sometime, just somewhere that's not the library."

'Nature buddies'. That sounded like a good thing and Kai was happy that he'd found someone in his dorm. It made life that little bit easier. He didn't really mind when she put her arm around his shoulder - it was just one of those things that didn't really bother him. After she'd finished about her Skiddo, he decided to tell her about his pokemon. "In a trashcan huh? That's not normally a place you fin a Skiddo. Well, my partner's a Raltz who saved me from a hoard of Sparink when I first started traveling. I also have a Aron and a Tyrunt."

He laughed when she mentioned they should hang out. It was true that while the library was a good place to study, they were probably being a tad too noisy for the location. "Yeah. We should probably find somewhere that's less strict on noise." He was beginning to like this girl. She'd make a good first friend at the academy.

"Wow, those sound pretty awesome!" Her very first friend. What a day. "Our pokemon will have to meet sometime." She had tripped and fell and made a mess in the library, but it was turning out to be for the best. Karin was on her way of making a lot of friends, and her first one was from her dorm as well! She glanced at the library's clock. Shocked by what the clock said, Karin gasped.

"Has it really been that long?!" She shouted, being too noisy again. She had left Basil (and Zoe) back in her room. They were probably worried about her (or at least Basil would be) as it's been quite some time since she started wandering the campus. Karin stood up, withdrawing her arm from his shoulder.

"I have to go now, sorry!" She gave Makai an apologetic smile before reaching over and ruffling his hair. "I'll see you later!" And with a wave goodbye, Karin fled from the library.
