Name: Sylvia Lane (prefers to be called Sylvie)
Age: 14
Date of Birth: April 11
Birthplace: Sinnoh – Floaroma Town
Gender: Female
Sexual Orientation: Asexual
Face Claim: Diamond – Houseki no Kuni
Appearance:
Distinguishing Features: Sylvia almost always has her hair dyed. A different shade almost every month. She usually chooses softer colors, but when she’s in one of her rare, sour moods, she may try out something a little harsher. Her natural hair color is brown, but very few know of this.
Height: 5’3
Character Type: Student
Personality: Sylvia can be downright unreadable to most people. For the most part, her personality is boiled down to being “careful” for lack of a better word. When Sylvia speaks, she does so slowly and meaningfully, as if she were chewing each word to determine its taste. She attunes her words carefully based on who she’s speaking to, but they all fall from her mouth at the same, unhurried pace. She is also viewed as very kind for this very reason, as she always goes to great lengths not to say anything that may upset someone. Having said that, though, she is very straightforward about giving compliments.
Even her movements appear to be carefully calculated. Sylvia takes walks often, and she does so very slowly. As such, she hardly ever has anyone willing to be her walking partner. This fact saddens her on occasion. Thankfully, she always has her Pokemon to keep her company. But although it looks as though she puts thought into every step, her movements are fluid. Almost elegant, really. Matched with the soft. ethereal touch of her locks, watching Sylvia move around is quite a pleasing sight. She can, however, move quite swiftly when the circumstances deem it necessary.
Those that are able to look past the mysterious air shrouding her unfortunately uncover even more mysteries. When her defenses are down (or, at least, when she makes you think her defenses are down) Sylvia is much more talkative. Her speech patterns even pick up slightly in speed. Around those she’s comfortable with, she becomes very clingy and playful. Sometimes even uncomfortably so. Her cautious behavior completely drops, and she can become downright coquettish at times.
Likes: Having grown up in Floaroma town, it’s almost a given that Sylvia has a fondness for flowers. It’s too predictable, really. She’s not a fanatic or anything, but it would be a lie to say that she didn’t feel the most at peace when surrounded by a bed of flowers. On her walks, Sylvia will (somehow) slow her pace just a tad when passing a bed of flowers. Sometimes, she’ll even stop altogether, crouch beside them and admire them. Sadly, though, Sylvia has never been very good at taking care of them.
As stated before, Sylvia loves to walk around. She sets a destination most of the time, but occasionally she’ll just wander around and let her feet take her where they desire to go. When she isn’t walking, Sylvia is either swimming, reading, or shopping. Speaking of shopping, though, Sylvia does love to look nice. But despite her flashy hairstyle, she prefers to wear clothing that’s more sleek and formal. She wears dark colors quite a bit – black especially. She has a fascination with ties and wears shorts most of the time. Though, she does wear the occasional dress or skirt when the whim hits her.
Sylvia enjoys pastries of all kinds but is particularly fond of croissants. But fruits are her real weakness. She has gone several nights simply eating a bowl of strawberries or a couple of apples for dinner.
Dislikes: If it isn’t already obvious by now, Sylvia absolutely hates being rushed. Though you’d never know it unless you knew her facial cues. When she has some sort of time limit, Sylvia tries to give herself plenty of time. Rushing makes her incredibly anxious so she tries to avoid it when she can.
Sylvia can put up with most people (at least on the surface), but she does have a low tolerance for arrogance. If she’s unlucky enough to be in the presence of someone with a huge ego, she will turn and leave without a word, momentarily forgetting her usual tact.
Sylvia also very much dislikes the cold. When winter rolls around, her mood always plummets. Being forced to wear a few extra layers of clothing doesn’t sit well with her and it always shows. You can often hear her muttering about waging war on the cold and other humorous bits of nonsense.
She also hates vegetables. All of them. Except cucumbers.
History: Growing up in Floaroma Town meant that Sylvia was surrounded on all sides by flowers each and every day of her life. She couldn’t take a step without having the scent and sight of flowers flooding her senses. The town and her home were in and of itself very cozy, but having flower beds literally hugging every corner of the place made it into some cozy, flowery paradise of sorts. Her upbringing was equally comfortable. Her parents, predictably, ran one of the many flower shops that were present within the town. Theirs was one of the smaller shops in town, but their friendly nature and skill made them popular among the older residents. It helped that they also dabbled in growing herbs. Being the oldest of three children, it had been expected of Sylvia to take over the shop once she was old enough. But as the years wore on and Sylvia’s overall lack of skill when it came to growing plants became more evident, this burden fell on the shoulders of her two younger sisters. Her parent’s attention gradually fell away along with this burden. Soon, the two of them were reserving most of their warm smiles for her siblings and their customers. She was left with some of their smiles, though. But there was always a tinge of disappointment there that she couldn’t help but see. She wasn’t bitter about it, though. Not at all.
So they wouldn’t have to force themselves to be pleasant around her, though, Sylvia often went wandering off on her own. Her usual destination was Eterna Forest. The path there always felt like a mini-adventure to her, and the place itself was perfect for wandering around and being alone. Of course, she was never really alone. Her loyal walking buddy, Ark, a Shinx that she received as a gift on her sixth birthday would always accompany her. When she traveled a little farther than usual, it was usually to find a nice body of water that she could take a dip in. There, she spent her time with her swimming buddy, Winnie, a Wooper she discovered and befriended on one of her walks with Ark. She never thought about the distance between her and her parents thanks to their company. It wasn’t bad at all, she liked to remind herself.
But even though she claimed it wasn’t bad, after four years of estrangement, she decided it was time she went out and did something with herself. She was sad that gardening hadn’t worked out. Horribly sad. But she simply couldn’t look at those superficial smiles anymore. Gray Haven Academy had always been a place that’d been present in the back of her mind. It was more like a fleeting dream than anything. Because she was so close to her Pokemon, she wanted to learn more about them, how to take care of them, so the academy was an appealing thought. But for years, the only thing that was important enough to take up residence in her thoughts was running the shop. But now that that was out the window, what was the harm in applying? Maybe she’ll find something she was good at? So she did. And off she went. Her parents were ecstatic – for what reason, she didn’t know, nor cared to know. But she tries not to think about it much. Not thinking about them always made things easier for some reason.
Dorm: Wave Dorm
Uniform Color: Light Blue
Starter Pokemon:
Name: Ark
Species: Shinx
Gender: Male
Ability: Intimidate
Moves: Leer, Spark, Bite, Charge
Notes: Being Sylvia's first Pokemon, Ark has had the most time to inherit some of Sylvia's traits. He's very calm most of the time, and is very gentle and precise in his movements. He is, however, very easy to scare, and Winnie takes advantage of this when she's feeling mischievous. Which is most of the time. Also similar to his trainer, Ark has a tendency to just kind of wander off when he's left out of his pokeball for long periods of time. This frightened Sylvia the first few times, but over the years she cameto accept it and expect it.
Name: Winnie
Species: Wooper
Ability: Water Absorb
Moves: Mud Shot, Slam, Mud Bomb, Water Gun
Notes: Winnie is a complete and utter goof. She loves to have fun, and usually her version of fun comes in the form of teasing both Pokemon and people. Sylvia's first encounter with her was, in fact, a result of her playing a prank. While Sylvia was taking one of her swims in a lake, Winnie spent about fifteen minutes bumping into her legs and swimming away. She eventually grew tired of this and burst through the surface, startling both Sylvia and Ark who'd been napping along the shore. Somehow a bond was formed.
