Name: Naveta Lejori, is currently using the Alias "Curie"
Age: 24
Date of Birth: Jan 8
Birthplace: Jubilife City, Sinnoh
Gender: Female
Sexual Orientation: ~*~It's a mystery~*~
Face Claim: Illness - Baccano!
Appearance:
Distinguishing Features: It's not obvious that she's an adult just by looking at her. Between her small size, slim build and lack of womanly features, she looks around 12 - 14.
Her appearance is completely unkempt. Her hair is long, but it's obvious it's only long because she can't be bothered to get it cut. Calling it a wad would be more accurate. Her body often has some kind of grime on it somewhere. Her most notable feature though would be the dark bags under her eyes from lack of sleep.
Height: 4'10"
Character Type: Team Origin Member
Personality: Naveta is selfish first and foremost. She tends to only think in terms of how much something will benefit her, whether that be a tangible benefit, like cash, or something more abstract, like making her feel good about herself, doesn't matter so much. They're both equally important to her. That's not to say she's cruel or enjoys hurting people, it simply doesn't enter her thought process to begin with. People in general are just a waste of time in her mind, so allowing them to enter her thoughts tends to also waste time. That's not to say she never helps people. Either she thinks it'll be useful to her in some way, she just likes the person for whatever reason, or it just takes little to no effort to do. In the end though, she's unlikely to sacrifice much of anything.
She has almost a universal dislike for people, which only a select few even being tolerable. To her, they're incompetent at best and untrustworthy at worst. Even the best ones tend to be more trouble than they're worth, and they're certainly not worth braving the terrible, possibly outright evil, ones for. Despite her attitudes towards them, and even though she will almost never engage them directly, she will often let them engage her as long as she's not in the middle of something more important, even if they don't need anything from her. Her attitudes towards them and generally laid back personality means that she will likely spend most of the conversation making fun of them though. This is half because she isn't interested in being close to anyone and this is an easy way to prevent people from bothering her, and half because she has no sense of guile and doesn't want to appear vulnerable. Naveta can't lie to safe her life, so about the best she can do is say something extremely sarcastically, but even then it's normally obvious that she's not being sincere. She has some sense to tell when people are lying, but it's not a very good sense. She just tends to believe that everything is lying when it comes to important stuff until proven otherwise.
Overall, it's pretty difficult to get her angry or even mildly miffed. She just shrugs off insults, or even people acting against her. At this point, she's so used to people trying to outright kill her that anything else people can try to do to her just seems insignificant in comparison. Besides, people are stupid, so their opinions are pretty stupid too. There's no reason to care about them at all. It's not until someone proves to be an outright threat to her that she feels the need to care. Her usual ways of taking care of it are through blackmail or otherwise proving she's more of a threat to them than they are to her, or hiding if they're clearly much scarier than she is. It's rare that she gives into their demands unless they're simple/insignificant or just clearly doesn't have any choice, and even then that'll only last until she figures a way out.
Naveta is fiercely independent, if only because she believes she absolutely has to be. She's not inclined to listen to rules, hierarchies or general societal niceties. If she personally doesn't see a point to something, she's likely to ignore it even if it would inconvenience her. It's the principle of the thing in the end. The only exception is, once again, if it would outright hurt her. For example, she's not inclined to be a jerk to the Origin admins because that would yield far more trouble than she could possibly handle for no benefit at all.
Her laid back personality makes it difficult for her to get excited about most things, but when she does she gets outright obsessive about it. The most notable examples of this would be her research or what ever computer-based project she happens to be working on at the moment. She can dive into such projects for days at a time, to the point that she frequently forgets to eat, bathe and sometimes even sleep. Because she tends to only focus on things she likes, this happens often, so she's generally malnourished, sleep deprived and smelly. And because she only thinks about herself, the only one she's normally inclined to fix is the malnourished part until she can't stand her own smell.
Likes: Geology, computers, puzzle games, science fiction novels
Dislikes: Wasting time/sleeping, fighting/pokemon battles, open spaces, her height/apparent age
History: Naveta was born to two loving parents that were very happy to have her. Unfortunately, they had no time for her even if they both really wanted to have a baby. Her father worked in the medical field both as a doctor and a teacher, so between his patients and his students, he was rarely home. Her mother worked as a police officer, and was trying to quell the crime spike that had been happening in the last few years, and thus was rarely home. She had an equally inattentive nanny to take care of her, but she was lucky if she even got fed half the time. Because her parents were so rarely home, she never really got a chance to complain about this, and when she tried they were often too tired to actually listen or thought she was just exaggerating. As a result, she was forced to grow up early, despite being fairly well off.
Like many small children, Naveta really wanted attention from her parents and her nanny didn't exactly count. If anything, she believed that if that woman would just go away then maybe her parents would be home more often. As she got older, she started getting into more and more trouble. Making her parents angry seemed to be the only way to get their attention. Doing obviously bad things and getting away with it was the only way to prove her nanny incompetent. Her parents remained as busy as ever, and her caretaker was just replaced. All this meant is that she clearly had to get into more trouble, and the fact that her nanny was more attentive just meant she had to be more sneaky about it. Naveta quickly learned how to stealthily move around and avoid detection. As long as the effect was obvious to her parents, the method of execution didn't matter much in the end.
Her parents were exasperated, but in the end nothing changed even still. It didn't matter what she did. Even when she started school, outright failing her classes wasn't enough. She was beginning to accept that there was simply nothing she could do, which just made her motivation to do much of anything sink. In school, she managed to make some friends, which filled the void somewhat, but it still wasn't quite what she wanted. By this point she could do pretty much whatever she wanted. Sure, her nanny would try to stop her, but it was extremely difficult to keep track of her. Despite that, she still behaved relatively responsibly, though she was still doing terrible in school. The content was easy enough to understand, but it was just so dull that she didn't do her homework a lot of the time. Only her performance on tests and work on group projects kept her from failing completely, the latter of which because she often made her group members do most of the work and only put in a token effort to seem important.
All of her personal time went into more important things. She had two fascinations: the first was how the world was created and how it functioned, and the second was computers. There wasn't a lot she could actually do with the former, so she just read as much about geology as she could, and sometimes even visited some of sights in Sinnoh that were supposedly connected to the creation of the world. She had little interest in it as a cultural thing though; her interest was strictly scientific. She wanted to know how it worked. Computers, her second love, were a bit different in that regard. They were much more about doing than learning. At first, they were just a glorified search engine so she could learn, but it was obvious there was much more to them. They could be used for games for one, which were an interesting time waster for awhile, but she could never call herself a gamer. What those games were made out of were interesting though. She slowly became more interested in their guts, the code that made them work and the other tools, such as databases, that ran behind the scenes. Much like with geology, it all started out with just wanting to know how it worked, but it quickly grew into something more. She started coding her own tools to handle tasks she didn't want to do, and would occasionally make a weird game.
As she grew, she became more and more of a social recluse. Not because she had anything against people, but because she was so obsessively digging into the topics that interested her that she was basically tuning out the world. She lost one of her friends because of this, and her attempt to win her back simply made her mad. She simply couldn't handle not knowing when Neveta would actually talk, or when she would get an automated email response from one of her bots. On some level, Naveta understood, but in the end she still felt a little betrayed. It got worse as she got older. By the time she got into middle school, what few friends she had left didn't have much interest in her anymore. One left because they didn't have any common interests or share any classes anymore and talking was just awkward. The other just suddenly dropped all communication, though Naveta could hear her making fun of her in the halls sometimes. She understood that feeling too. She just wanted certain groups of people to like her. It didn't matter if she understood though, she still felt betrayed. Between her obsessions and her overall introverted behavior, she found it difficult to make new friends, and the void returned bigger than ever. For the time being, she just watched people, while occasionally doing stupid things to get attention again like she did in the past. However, just listening to what her peers were talking about and how much difficulty they seemed to be having with such easy material just made her realize she didn't have any interest in being around them in the first place.
Or so she liked to think. She was simply better than them and that's why they didn't like her. It had nothing to do with how she acted towards them. It had nothing to do with the fact that she often saw them interact with their parents and had some misplaced anger because of it. Definitely not, they just didn't understand. She was too deep for their puny minds to comprehend. Thus, she remained isolated, feeling a surge of anger flare up every time she saw a happy family. She had no idea where it came from, and even the part of her that had some idea denied it completely. She began looking into the darker side of computers after that. How could she break into these assholes' machines? How could she utterly destroy this person's character in this one online game? She didn't know why she was doing a lot of this stuff, she was just mad and didn't know what else to do.
A few years passed, and her parents were still rarely home. When she was thirteen, they decided she didn't even need a nanny anymore. A lot of children were traveling across the country at this point, so it wasn't surprising to her, but it meant that she would be in their large house all alone for the most part. That just made her angrier somehow. It was at that point that she decided she was going to help her mother and bring this mob she had been looking for to justice so that maybe she could actually come home. After investigating obsessively for quite some time, often skipping school and using methods of dubious legality to do so, she managed to track down where their base likely was, and where a database of employees likely was. Sadly, that database was completely offline, and was likely just a reference to higher ups so they could keep tabs on everyone. This meant that she was going to have to physically go into their base and break into the system there. Her small body, with a little bit of help from her pokemon for scouting, allowed her to successfully get to the computer. However, once she got there, she heard signs of someone coming. They might have caught wind of her intrusion somehow. She knew she had to escape, but she didn't want to leave without the data she needed. It was dangerous enough just to do this once, so she definitely could not fail! After several minutes of careful work, she managed to get into their database and started exporting it to her own system. It would still take a few minutes though, and the footsteps outside were getting louder. With just a few seconds to go, the door burst open, and someone shined a flashlight on her face. Naveta threw her arms up in a vain attempt to protect her identity and started grabbing her system to get out of there. The export finished just in time, and she had her pokemon use flash to blind everyone just long enough for her to escape through an air vent.
She stealthily made her way home, and it took hours to do so. Minimizing the risk of getting caught was far more important than getting out of there quickly. Once she was in her room, she flipped open her laptop again and began investigating the contents of her heist. It was then she finally understood why these people weren't getting caught after so long and why her mother was never home. The crime ring had infiltrated the police and now more or less controlled it. Naveta just stared at her screen in disbelief. No wonder that place was so easy to find and infiltrate. The whole reason her mother was never home was because she was out all day just pretending to do something important? It was at that point that Naveta was convinced she understood human nature. Money was more important than her. Popularity was more important than her. Public opinion was more important than her. A false sense of duty was more important than her. And when she wanted to have some time to herself and do some of the things she wanted to do it was somehow asking too much. Even though her father was not on this list, she was beginning to doubt him too. Just how much were people hiding from her? More anger flared up inside her, but she understood the reasons this time. People were scum. None of them could be trusted, none of them were worth her time and right now she wanted to blow up the world. After taking the necessary precautions to stop it from being traced, she published the database online and exposed it to the world. She didn't even care what happened to her family at this point, or even what happened to her.
After that, she refused to leave her room. She didn't want to go to school anymore, she didn't want to talk to her parents anymore, she didn't want to deal with anyone anymore. The only time she left was to stock up on enough non-perishable food that didn't need to be cooked that she wouldn't have to come out for quite some time. She just continued researching what she wanted and building what she wanted. The void in her chest slowly disappeared as she began to genuinely not be interested in human affection anymore. It never went away completely, but it was certainly less painful at this point. After a couple of weeks of living like this, her mind finally accepted what was actually happening and she broke down and started to cry. For once, it wasn't anger fueling one of her episodes, just sadness. She left her room for the first time in about a month after that and returned to school no matter how much she hated it.
About a week later, one of her family's pokemon was found dead on their doorstep with a threatening letter attached to it. The remnants of the organized crime ring she exposed finally found her. At first, she wasn't quite sure what to do. She left the message there for her father to let him know that he would likely be in danger too, but otherwise wasn't feeling particularly inclined to tell him personally. There was no telling if he actually was in the end or if he was in on all this anyway. Locking herself in her room again didn't seem like such a good idea, so instead she hid in one of the caves she found while visiting Lake Verity for the time being. It didn't take long for her to figure out that she needed to get out of here, so she sneaked aboard the next ship out, worrying that if she bought a ticket it'd be easier to trace her.
When she arrived in the next region, it occurred to her that she still wouldn't be able to buy anything or get a job through normal means. Anything that would be traceable to her identity or otherwise have her name plastered somewhere could lead them right to her. It was strange to think about, she was suddenly poor, couldn't work and didn't know where her next meal was going to come from for the first time in her life. For a time, she survived mostly on simple thievery of mostly food, but this was no way to live. It was difficult for her to continue learning and building and it was driving her crazy. It occurred to her that she could probably start doing some genuine research instead of just reading about everything online if she could just get the proper tools. So once again, she ventured into the world of doing things on the computer of dubious legality. She mostly dealt in information, but would occasionally secure smaller objects that she could hide in a skirt. She started making a small fortune, and when she pissed someone off she would just head off to some other region and start the process over. During this time, she mellowed out quite a bit. Her anger almost completely vanished and she just felt stupid for getting angry at some of the insignificant things she did before. She became less uptight, and as she continued succeeding, less worried about what other people thought of her. Her way was unconventional, but it was working and she was overall happier than she had ever been.
It worked well until she pissed off the wrong group. Naveta managed to get some dirt on a major syndicate in the area without realizing just who they were. When she escaped the area again, she realized that they were in the next region she went to. And then the next one and the one after that. It was clear that this was going to be a bigger problem than she thought. Eventually, some shady person approached her and told her of Harmonia island and the crime ring there. They said that they could protect her and that they were interested in what she was researching. Naveta looked into this "Team Origin" group and could only conclude that they were just about as shady as everyone else she was used to working with at this point. No stated MO other than their name was a hint. It at least made sense that someone interested in origins would be interested to know how the world formed, but she clearly couldn't trust them as far as she could throw them. She was still content to work with anyone that would fund her research, and if they could keep everyone else she pissed off off her back for awhile that would be even better. They seemed to be a small, relatively new group though, so she wasn't really counting on it. If worst came to worst, she could just bail when they caught up to her again like she had been. At the very least, the people she was running from didn't appear to be on Harmonia Island, and that island was also the weirdest place on earth. It would certainly be interesting to study. She told the person she was in and quickly got on a boat to the island.
Starter Pokemon:
Nickname: Arkose
Species: Misdreavus
Gender: Male
Ability: Levitate
Held Item: None
Moves: Confuse Ray, Pain Split, Hex, Shadow Ball
Notes: After about a week of Arkose terrorizing her household, Naveta managed to catch and befriend him. He's mellowed out a lot since then, but still has a bit of a mean streak. He won't normally do anything too mean, just some minor trolling, and typically only to people besides his trainer.
Nickname: Cirque
Species: Zorua
Gender: Female
Ability: Illuison
Held Item: None
Moves: Fake Tears, Feint Attack, Nasty Plot, Night Daze
Notes: Cirque is a fairly lazy pokemon who wants to spend most of her day sleeping. That said, when she is awake she can work surprisingly hard as long as it's something she wants to do. If it's not there's pretty much no way to get her to do it. Naveta and Cirque are pretty friendly with each other, so sometimes Cirque will be willing to do a favor or two in exchange for something good.
