Marcus grew up on Slateport Town with his Mother, Father and two Younger Brothers. His father is a Sailor who works at Slateport Harbor and comes and goes all the time to provide for his family and his mother works at the local museum. His two brothers do volunteer work, one at the museum with their mother and the other at the Contest Hall. Marcus grew up with his family and always wanted to visit the world just like his father did and help people from all over. Marcus always wanted to go with his father on a trip, but his father always said next time, but that time never came and it kind of discouraged him a little from wanting do his dream of visiting the world, but still wanted to help people as best he could.
One day Marcus and his family received a letter form their father, who said he was not coming home. They were all devastated by this factor and it left his mother as the sole provider for them. This meant his mother took more shifts and more hours at work to keep providing for their family. The day Marcus turned sixteen he was able to quickly get two jobs. One as a lifeguard at the local beach and the other at the local market place as a stocker. He gave his mother all the money he got to help pay for bills and food around the house. This went on for a while, and Marcus even gave up on fulfilling his dream to travel the world, but stayed around Slateport to help those in need.
When he turned twenty, his mother came to his room to talk to him about something. She handed him a check that was the amount of every check he had given her for their family to get by with. She had told him that she couldn't take money from her own son so she kept the money to save it for him. She wanted him to fulfill his dream of traveling the world. He didn't want to, but she talk him into it, as his brothers were now old enough to help provide for themselves and their mother. He agreed to go, and packed his things and went the following month.
Tyson shipped off to visit the different regions of the world. As he traveled he fell in love with the outdoors and all of the seasons and environments it brought. He began to stay outside more often then indoors, including when needing to sleep. As he did so over the years he befriended different types of Pokemon that he helped who were in trouble or helped him when he was in trouble. All his Pokemon willingly joined him on his journey.
Marcus eventually made his way back home when he was twenty six. He told his mother and brothers what he had down over the years and all of them were proud of him. He fund out his brothers each became Pokemon trainers and one became a Coordinator as the other became a Breeder. Marcus was very proud of them, it mad him happy to see they grew up and loved what they did. Marcus then heard of a job opening at a Pokemon Academy for a Navigation's teacher, and he figured it would be a great way to help future trainers with traveling in the future and how to use Pokemon to help survive in the wild. He decided to go to the Academy and teach.
