Kotone is first and foremost a perfectionist. When battling or doing her own things, she requires that all of her actions be perfect; it doesn't matter so much to her how things she cannot control work out, but she is extremely critical and harsh on herself for even the smallest of errors. This can result in her sulking when she makes a mistake, which is quite often. After lost battles, especially, Kotone will question her ability as a trainer and wonder if her Pokemon regret having her as their trainer.
Simply put, Kotone is a slightly less-than-average battler. While she is quick to adapt to any new situations, and definitely is smart enough to figure out counterattacks, Kotone simply does not have any strategical foresight. She will rarely take advantage of the terrain and will, more often than not, simply decide upon the course of action that would benefit her the most at that given moment. Because she loses sight of the bigger picture, Kotone can be easily outmaneuvered if the battle draws on, but she excels in short, quick blitzes.
With her friends, Kotone is compassionate and sociable. She will be very talkative and is a good-listener in the event that her friends have any issues they want to talk about. However, Kotone is also forgetful, and will be prone to failing to remember entire conversations unless they were important.

Kotone was born and raised in Mavro City, although from the moment she turned ten, her parents would leave for long periods of time to explore the region and catch Pokemon. As a result, Kotone grew resentful of her parents. She believe that they had abandoned her and that she wasn't good enough, but was never able to express that, until her thirteenth birthday. She had spent it alone, and couldn't handle it anymore. She got in an argument with her parents as soon as they returned, but neither were willing to compromise and they never reached a solid resolution. Within the week, her parents had left the city once more, but, this time, they had left her a late birthday gift: a shiny eevee.
That was how Kotone met Finn. He was her best friend and always accompanied her. Everywhere Kotone went, Finn was sure to not be far behind; he practically became her shadow, and, with him, Kotone was able to explore places she had never seen before. She saw what the world was like beyond the tall grass for the first time in her life, and she instantly fell in love with it. She loved the freedom of it, the openness, and finally understood her parents' feelings. Kotone wouldn't be able to give up such an amazing world, no matter how hard she tried.
Even so, the tension between her and her parents was never resolved. Both parties continued to circumvent the issue, pretending the fight had never happened in the first place as Kotone's parents continued to travel and she continued to grow on her own. And, as she began to develop her own identity, Kotone realized her calling in life: she was going to be a Pokemon trainer. So, she applied to Gray Haven Academy, and, when she was accepted, Kotone left home without a single glance back and moved forward into a new chapter of her life.
