Personality: Charles is typically a happy-go-lucky kind of guy, but he knows when to be serious... most of the time. He is easily distracted, often by bugs, things that flicker, and things that spin. He is baffled by the way some people can meet and instantly become friends. He has a brave side, but he knows when he is in over his head... most of the time. He has often been told that he has a talent for music, but he doesn't think he's that great. He does not particularly enjoy or dislike meeting new people, as long as they are interesting. He will usually just ignore anything that disinterests him. He believes that life is all about adaptation and diversity. However, even with this view, drastic changes nearly drive him mad. Gradual changes, casual life; that is what Charles believes is most important.
Although he has a slight disdain for being in a position of leadership, he will take up the mantle if he doesn't think anyone can do it properly. He enjoys music and food, but music that just doesn't sound right and food that is too spicy tick him off.

History: Charles was born in the Sinnoh Region. His father was a former Trainer who grew to enjoy researching more than battling. His mother was an avid Dragon- and Ground-type trainer who would help his father with his work on occasion. When Charles was born, she settled down in Eterna City. He grew up learning about Pokémon, but his ADD usually kicked in quickly.
When Charles was eight, his mother left to explore Sinnoh one last time. While she was away, Charles took up her position as research assistant, but research slowed because Charles had little interest at the time. He was more interested in learning about space and other random trivia.
His mother came back about eight months later with new Pokémon and her adventurous side sated. When she came back, she brought out a Female Gible. For some reason, Charles took an instant liking to the Pokémon, naming it "Nibble". Even more odd is how Nibble took to Charles. It was like the tiny human was a new toy or something.
For the next few years, Charles learned how to train Pokémon from his parents. He also learned how to gain their trust and keep it. To his parents, it seemed like Charles was finally interested in Pokémon. To Charles and Nibble, they had just found a new friend/toy that they wanted to learn about.
In an effort to get Charles more acquainted with Pokémon from around the world, his parents sent him to Gray Haven Academy on Harmonia Island. When he arrived with only a Gible for a partner, the staff offered him another Pokémon to train. When he looked at his options, he chose Onix, figuring that the large Pokémon would help against larger opponents if it came to a Battle. He decided then to call it "Rox."
