Name: Jodie Rey
Age: 21
Date of Birth: June 15
Birthplace: Born in Kalos, calls Sandgem Town in Sinnoh home
Gender: Female
Sexual Orientation: Aro/Ace
Face Claim: Original Art
Appearance:
Jodie is short and twig-like. Standing at 5ft 1in and weighing in at 101lb, she looks like the ghosts she trains. Her pale complexion certainly doesn't help. Her form could be compared to a rectangular prism, as she lacks the normal womanly everything. The time she’s spent outside has lent itself to strong muscles but not a tan - mostly because she prefers the dark places of the world and grew up in Sinnoh, a place where sleeves and a hood are as necessary as shoes. Jodie’s hair is short and black, reaching only to her ears. Long hair has only served to get tangled in things.
Jodie’s voice is low and has a large range of volumes, though she finds herself being yelled over more often than she’d like. Her step is sure and silent, her small form making itself useful for once, and her gait is relaxed and light.
Distinguishing Features:
Jodie has a sum total of five types of clothing; a sleeveless, a hoodie, cargo pants, tall hiking boots, and a long scarf. She has several sets of these articles (along with the one odd t-shirt and pair of jeans) and a lot of washing machine tokens.
Her eyes have begun to blur through her (mis)adventures, and she’s invested in contacts. Seeing the opportunity, she requested they all be done in red. If you needed to know, they’re naturally brown. While Jodie likes the look of jewelry, she doesn't actually wear any herself.
Height: 5ft 1in
Character Type: Security Guard
Personality: Jodie is the type of person that, for the life of her, cannot stay still. It extends past the simple need to fiddle with something when sitting still to the way she lives her life; for a lot of her life, this meant traveling wherever her whims took her. While this desire to explore the world hasn’t left her, a job that requires her to search every last hidden corner is a good enough compromise for now.
Jodie is not shy. Not just in the sense that she has no problem chatting with some random stranger, but that she has no problem asking said random stranger deep and highly personal questions. She’s always on the hunt for new secrets and stories, and in her book each person is a world-changing protagonist waiting to happen. Even with meeting all these people, there’s never been a person Jodie’s disliked. There’s people she likes to stay away from, sure, but she’s never outright hated anyone. Everyone has something redeemable, she’s found; no one is pure evil. Of course, if someone is doing something that conflicts with her morals (like stealing someone’s pokemon), she will step in to stop them. Just because she doesn’t hate them doesn’t mean she’ll let them run amuck.
Jodie likes seacrets. Not the shards of gossip others enjoy (though those are pretty great too), but the dark, gory, controversial secrets. Bonus points if she’s the first person to find them out. If there’s a haunted house in the area, she’ll be there; unstable structures and possible trespassing laws be darned. Any old structure draws her, for hope of finding a past lost to history. She loves superstitions, old legends, urban legends, or conspiracy theories, and will forgo fear to find them out. Needless to day, this has lead her into many dangerous situations, as Jodie can be extraordinarily reckless and is entirely the kind of person who, if she sees something explode, will run towards it to find out what's happened.
When one first meets her, Jodie easily comes off as carefree. Lacking social boundaries overall, she has a tendency to do whatever she feels like. She’ll speak her mind (sparing no gory detail), go where she wants, and do what she wants, sometimes simply for a reaction. If she’s confronted for trespassing or doing something she’s not supposed to, she’ll try to bypass authority, by simply lying or using any authority she may have, before backing down. Expect her back later that night, of course.
She will jump in if she sees someone being wronged, and make sure all has been righted. Authority without the good of people at its base grates her nerves, and will stand up against it. That’s not to say she’s a crusader of all things good; she has a “if it’s not harming anyone it’s fine” mentality which extends liberally to herself.

History:
Jodie’s story began halfway through the journey of another trainer. Her single mother, five badges into her pokemon conquest, allowed only a few months pause in a small mountain village in Kalos for her to have her child before she was back on the road and roaring for that 6th gym badge. Three years later, Jodie's mother finally won the Kalos league, all while also raising her child. But that wasn’t the end of her pokemon journey. Mother and toddler spent three years in Johto, then another three in Sinnoh, where she gained a couple of gym badges and many new friends.
Jodie never knew who her father was. Her mother wasn’t even entirely sure. However, it never felt to Jodie that she was being raised alone. Over the course of her mother’s journey, she met many close friends, who each played their part in the young child's upbringing. Some of her fondest memories come from the times her mother left her in the care of her traveling companions so as to explore a place far too dangerous for a kid. Once, one of her companions spent an hour trying to teach Jodie out of the history book she was supposed to be studying before throwing the book to the ground and going on a half-day long tirade about how everything the historians said was wrong and there were pokemon from space living among them (she would later give Jodie a Cleffa for her fourteenth birthday). Another time, they stumbled upon a cave, and against better judgement, went in to explore, finding an underground crystalline lake.
One night, when Jodie was 9, the two of them were staying in the frosty Snowpoint City. Her mother left her at the pokemon center to trek further north, to a mysterious cave she’d heard stories of, saying she’d be gone for three days. The third night passed, bringing with it a blizzard. Though she wasn’t far passed her given time, the blizzard had more than a few people worried. Search parties went out later that day.
Her mother had been caught in a rocky avalanche. Her pokemon, who usually got her out of trouble like this, had been knocked out by the strong wild pokemon she’d run into high in the mountains. Thankfully, the search party came quick enough to save her mother’s life, but after her recovery, she was left with a limp. This was far too little to keep her mother from the wilds completely, but she was aware that it was about time she settled down. Jodie’s first permanent home came in the form of the Sandgem town pokemon lab. The head professor there offered her mother a job as a field researcher, which she gladly accepted.
When she was ten, Jodie set out on her pokemon journey. A misadventure in the woods two months prior had given her her first two pokemon, and so girl, ghastly, and duskull set out.
Unlike most trainers, Jodie’s main goal was not to gather all of the gym badges. Nor was it to fill her pokedex - though her objective did lead to a fair chunk of that getting filled in. Jodie, more than anything, wanted to see the world; uncover its secrets and see all the sights it had to offer. If she bumped into a gym or a new pokemon along the way, then that was just dandy. A trip east across the mountains and a fairy ticket took her to Kalos. From there, she traveled from region to region, moving on when she felt done. In Sinnoh, she earned a single gym badge, and in Kalos she got two before moving on. Next came Kanto, where she gained one, and another two in Johto. Jodie spent more time in Unova than any other region, earning four badges. Recently, she’s come from six months in Hoenn.
It was a perfect mix of a lack of money and a great sounding job position in a faraway region that got Jodie to quit her journey and see what it was like to work. She applied, was accepted, and moved. It’s been another six months since she took the job, and she hasn’t yet come to regret her decision. Really, it's been great; before she had to fight authority to get into places she shouldn’t be, now it's her duty to go to said places. She may be a little more sneaky than your standard security guard, preferring to keep lookout from the shadows with her ghost-type pokemon, but it’s this method that keeps this somewhat tedious job fun for her.

Starter Pokemon:
GENGAR - Eddie
One of Jodie's first pokemon. He has a lazy and go-with-the-flow personality, but is extraordinarily loyal to his trainer. Quick to react and wise to her shenanigans, he's saved Jodie's life on more than one occasion.
Moves: Hypnosis | Mean Look | Confuse Ray | Shadow Punch | Shadow Ball | Dark Pulse | Hex | Protect | Will-O-Wisp | Telekinesis
Gender: Male | Ability: Levitate | Item: Black Sludge

DUSKNOIR - Skully
Along with Gengar, Skully is one of Jodie's first pokemon. He's a perfectionist and generally a pacifist, but is (over)protective of the weak.
Moves: Future Sight | Fire Punch | Ice Punch | Thunder Punch | Gravity | Pursuit | Shadow Ball | Psychic | Haze | Power-Up Punch

CLEFABLE - Vlad
His cheerfulness and happiness cranked up to an eleven, Vlad doesn't have much for motivations or life goals. His greatest joy is annihilating his foes with a lucky metronome.
Moves: Metronome | Minimize | Iron Tail | Mimic | Wish | Belly Drum | Moonblast | Giga Impact | Fire Punch | Strength
Gender: Male | Ability: Magic Guard | Item: Life Orb

HONEDGE - Caliburn
The crack that stretches across this young honedge's hilt and eye seems to have hampered her usual psychic ability of self levitation, and thus her overall mobility (along with any other psychic moves she could learn). Under most circumstances, this makes her incapable of battle. However, she and Jodie have worked out a roundabout, and though the pokedex stresses to never ever grab the hilt of a honedge, what works works. Jodie doesn't mind a little possession.
For obvious reasons, Caliburn doesn't fight in trainer battles.
Moves: Swords Dance | Fury Cutter | Aerial Ace | Slash | Retaliate | Iron Defense | False Swipe | Flash Cannon
Gender: Female | Ability: No Guard | Item: None

GRENINJA* - Nanami
Nanami was gifted to a young Jodie as a froakie by a mentor of hers, who said, “Jodie, you know you really should raise more than just ghost types”. While at first they were both reluctant to work with each other, the naive girl bonded with her naive frog, and after many a reckless stunt, they’ve grown closer and (sort of) smarter together.
Moves: Night Slash | Smokescreen | Spikes | Water Shuriken | Substitute | Extrasensory | Double Team | Haze | Hydro Pump | Gunk Shot
Gender: Female | Ability: Torrent | Item: Bright Powder

GARDEVOIR* - Gwynedd
Gwynedd knows how to hold a grudge. Every trainer defeats numerous small pokemon when they first set out on their journey - it’s a fairly standard way to raise one’s strength, and no one ever thinks they’ll see said wild pokemon again. Jodie certainly wasn’t when the once-ralts-now-evolved-kirlia sought her out for his revenge. She may have lost all of her camping supplies and an eyebrow that day, but she gained a dutiful and motivated companion.
Moves: Moonblast | Teleport | Wish | Calm Mind | Psychic | Hyper Beam | Confuse Ray | Heal Bell | Telekinesis | Thunderbolt

FEEBAS - Sir Wentworth Fendiline Galashiels the Fifth
Jodie won Sir Wentworth as a consolation prize for some contest at a very fancy house. He came with his name - and while Jodie doubts pokemon actually have any kind of royalty, the feebas certainly thinks he’s a part of it.
Moves: Splash | Tackle | Flail | Dragon Pulse

AMPHAROS - Artis
Artis is a stoic and proud pokemon who loves nothing more than a good, clean, honorable fight. While most of Jodie’s strategies revolve around tricks and disabling her foes, Artis refuses such notions of “battle” with great offence. There is no budging the ampharos in her beliefs, but nor will she ever give up.
