The little Chespin had finally been put down, by a rather odd-looking pokemon that somewhat resembled a cloud. But good Arceus almighty, what a performance he had put on! It was one deserving of some kind of award. Being able to knock out two opposing pokemon, let alone one!? That was an accomplishment in itself. As the old saying goes however, all good things must come to an end at some point. For this Chespin, this was that point.

Regardless, a sense of pride overwhelmed Shane at the moment; he leanred exactly how tough his little spiny nut case is. "You were amazing, Wally. Thanks a lot." he praised his partner and friend. He took a moment to deliberate on who to send out next as Mr. Christopher explained an ideal lesson in a future class; Abilities. Shane had already made it a point to attend every session on the subject of battle tactics.

The boy shook his head. Mr. Christopher didn't need to apologize. The kid was having a blast! It'd be even more fun if could pull out a win here against a supposed expert in this field. As it stood right now, it's Shane's two pokemon to Mr. Christopher's one. That one though, could be a problem. It was time to dispatch the second pokemon. A sword. A sword that floats to be exact. A new addition to Shane's squad. Might as well get some experience under its belt now.

"Alright, Valkyrie, you're up! Let's hit 'em up with a Sacred Sword!" The Honedge moved in to deliver one fell swoop on the Castform.

Karl hummed as he boy shook his head then summoned a Honedge now Karl was only a little bit familiar with the Steel Ghost Type line. He was the most familiar with the final evolution Aegislash and it's unique ability Stance Change but Honedge now that didn't have stance change but the ability no guard which made sure all attacks hit on both sides but that seeing that the sword meant business it was time to play to win and Karl had a plan.

His Castform took the Scared Sword hit with a cry. However there was a boost in play. A Sitrus Berry was popped out and quickly eaten by 

"okay Nimbus, time to turn up the heat, Sunny Day!"

Nimbus growled as he called up a fire ball that shot into the air and glowed like a bright sun. With it Nimbus transformed into his Sunny Form. A Fire Type form.

Karl hummed as he looked at Shane "I am not down yet. If luck on my side, I should be able to edge out a win however if your pokemon can prove to be lucky then you may just get this. Nimbus hang in there."

"Castform." Nimbus trilled as he posed which showed that the cloud pokemon will do it's best.

Things were starting to heat up now. Quite literally. The battlefield had suddenly turned brighter, and warmer. Possibly due to the effect of that cloud's last move. Sunny Day, was it? Of course, no damage was done, but Shane couldn't help but get the feeling that there had to be some form of ulterior motive behind that move. And speaking of forms, the Castform had taken of...a sun!?

What in the name of Arceus was going on here? Whatever it was, it put the hopeful student in quite the pickle. Another Weather Ball would likely put his Honedge down in one hit. Switching to his only other pokemon left, his Ducklett, would also mean wasting a turn thus leaving an opening for another attack. What to do...?

The answer was simple. This predicament left him with no choice but to stick to his current artillery in the form of the sword pokemon in this intensified heat. "Gotta go through with this. It's risky, but it's my only option...Valkyrie, use Sacred Sword again!" The Honedge proceeded to swipe its cold, steel blade. Any other move likely prove ineffective.

Nimbus took the sword slash (40% HP remaining) but because of the type change it was no longer super effective but now that Honedge was in trouble. 

"Nimbus Weather Ball!" Karl commanded

Nimbus charged up launching a sphere into the Sunny Day sun and the sun glowed as fire rained down the Honedge engulfing it in a sun boosted fire attack that was super effective against the ghost sword

Karl hummed as he knew that Honedge was toast "looks like I'm turning the tables on you, does your last pokemon have what it takes to stop my cloud pokemon?"

Nimbus was lightly huffing. It was lightly exhausted but it was still in the battle

Just as he had thought, one fire-boosted Weather Ball was all it took to take the valiant ghost sword down. And just like that, the playing field had been leveled in no time flat. It was back to drawing board. Back to square one. Speaking of going back to one, that was the number of pokemon that Shane had at his disposal. One. If there's anything he had learned from Sunny Day, it was some of that last pokemon's own move would be hindered by it. What's worse that it was clear to see now that it enhanced the Castform's move.

The realization of..."One chance left..."

That feeling of being on the brink of your own demise, especially when in the beginning, it seemed as if you had victory within your reach. But now it seemed even further away now than he would have liked. He had only one opportunity remaining to overcast that cloud. It was all down to this...Shane flung his third pokeball out, unveiling a peculiar water bird. And from the looks of it, the little duckling was ready to play.

"Alright Aflac, we've only got shot at this...use Air Slash! And make it count!" The Ducklett complied without question, delivering a wave of compressed air at the pokemon that, quite frankly, seemed to be full of air.

Static Electricity would be crackling in the air as the water duck wouldn't be able to stand against the cloud's pokemon electric attack. 

Karl hummed as Nimbus in exhaustion floated into Karl's hands and Karl held him "great going Nimbus." He then looked at Shane "A well played match Shane. Each of your pokemon performed well and obeyed your commands with determination that is the sign of a great trainer and that you take good care of them." He stated "don't take this loss hard. Nimbus is practically down for the count. One more attack and he would be out."

Nimbus made a sigh like noise.

Karl hummed "so can I expect to see you in my next class?"

Another one-hit knockout. Two out of three.

He couldn't afford that happening, but sadly for him, it did. What's worse was that it had also marked the end of the battle. Just when he had thought on the verge of triumphing over a supposed expert in the field of battling, it would appear that he still had a long way to go in that department. He had come so close that he was practically able to taste the sweet flavor of victory, bu only wound up tasting the sour agony of defeat. The boy could only look on with a blank expression after his Ducklett had been shocked half to death.

Words couldn't possibly describe the many various emotions coursing through his veins at this very moment. Bitterness, doubt, regret, and dissatisfaction, just name to a few. Bitterness from having victory slip right through his fingers. Doubt as he now found himself questioning his own abilites as a trainer. Regret from thinking it was a good idea to challenge a teacher of all people. Dissatisfaction of simply not being able to get the job done.

In spite of all this, the boy will press on. Should the instructor expect to see Shane in his next class? Why was that even questioned? That goes without saying, really. The seemingly disgruntled trainer, now clearly devoid of any positive emotions, answered with a simple "Yes, sir." But that's not all he can anticipate. "You can also expect another challenge from me someday. Until then...good day..." he finished as he would soon be on his way. His first order of business upon returning to the dorms? Tend to his injured friends. And then...

I still don't have what it takes...I've gotta train harder...

Karl hummed as the kid in a sour tone stated that he would attend and stated that he would challenge Karl again.

"Good Day." Karl stated calmly as he gave a slight bow of his head as the boy took off.

Karl sighed as he held Nimbus "I really dealt a blow to his ego didn't I Nimbus..."

Nimbus made a slight sad comment as he turned back to his normal form

Karl hummed "you did nothing wrong Nimbus." He exhaled as he adjusted his glasses "perhaps I made a mistake in not keeping to a certain level and spiking it at the end because I was not in the mood to lose." He hummed "come on I think a night off is needed. I need to review what my task here is."
