"Yeah...let's not experience that again..." Shane mused to his most trusted flying friend, Falco. Exploring areas he couldn't have gone to before was one thing, but to be able to gain some decent experience from all of it? That was another thing entirely.

If there's any other thing that he's learned from this expedition so far, it was that the wild pokemon around here appeared stronger than any other that he had encountered in the past.

Indeed, that was surely noteworthy. Perhaps that would mean less time spent to actual train them further upon catching them. But alas, the boy could only hope that he'd encounter something in which he had not yet seen up to this point in time.

Specks of smoke particles continued to plague the area after that Charmeleon's alleged Smokescreen. But just as Shane believed it to be too much for him to continue his expedition, rays of what appeared to be from the sun flashed before him. Fortunately, the light would clear the remains of any lingering smoke in the immediate vicinity. From within the darkness of it all, a bug had emerged. And what a dazzling bug it was!

"Whoa...that's a new one..." A new pokemon to be exact, something that had always fascinated the young boy from Kanto. Cue the PokeDex! "Volcarona, the Sun Pokemon. A sea of fire engulfs the surroundings of its battles, since it uses its six wings to scatter their ember scales. When volcanic ash darkened the atmosphere, it is said that Volcarona’s fire provided a replacement for the sun."

"Amazing..." That had to be the most beautiful and awe-inspiring insect he had ever seen. And he just had to have it for himself! Before long, a wave of flames had soon began to spread throughout the field, and the Volcarona engulged itself in its own heat as it danced about. Both Shane and Falco had to sidestep to avoid the wayward ember scales. "Hm, it looks like it wants to battle! Ready, Falco!?" The Pidgeotto took flight almost immediately; he was ready.

The sunny bug continued to dance around while emitting waves of intense heat. "I haven't seen a move like that before...be careful of the flames, Falco!" Just as the Volcarona had danced, Falco swerved and swayed in attempts of making the best effort to avoid possibly getting burned. "Use Aerial Ace!" But just as Falco made his move, he'd be caught with a surprise String Shot, then get wrapped in a wicked Fire Spin.

"Oh no...Falco!" The bird was a tad slow getting back to his vertical base there. Still, he spread his wings again, then suddenly feathers spun about. And before he knew it, the bird was up and running - or rather, flying - again. "Whoa...is that...?" The boy thought aloud, then it hit him. "Yes! It's Roost! Wow, Falco's learned a new move! Awesome! How're you feeling, pal?" The bird squawked proudly, ready to continue the fight. "Great! Now then, use Quick Attack!" Falco flew in, this time able to avoid the ember flashes and make his mark on the bug.

It resumed shooting some string. "There it is again...Aerial Ace, and watch out for that String Shot!" The bird's speed proved to be the deciding factor in this battle, as the Pidgeotto hit his target yet again. The moved appeared to have a significant effect on the Volcarona would soon find itself keeling over, leaving it open for a clean catch. "I think that'll be enough exploring for one day, dontcha think?" Without even waiting a second for a response from his avian companion, he'd make haste for the dorms, ecstatic about having just acquired a new and unique ally.
