The sun set a few hours ago, and the area was quite dark. The only light was a bit of light pollution from Mavro city, and a bit of light from the moon. It was dark enough that all the beach goers had long since left the beach, but light enough that someone as used to walking around in the dark wouldn't have that much trouble seeing. This was the perfect time to take a look around Harmonia Island. It felt odd that she was a professional researcher with a side job at this point as opposed to the other way around. Since she could focus on this instead of all this bullshit about who to watch, who to work for, who to avoid and whatever these idiots wanted to know, maybe she could actually make some progress. Harmonia Island was a good place to be as well. It was basically Frankenstein's island, in the sense that it looked more like stitched together masses of land as opposed to a more cohesive island. She had no idea how this was even possible, so it would be interesting to piece all that together.
First, she needed to take a look around the place to get familiar with what was there. From there, she could decide which areas needed further examination. The beach was the closest to the city, so it seemed reasonable to start there. A beach could tell you a lot about the surrounding climate at least. People claimed this was a volcanic island, though given there were three separate mountains here, she wasn't so sure. The beach suggested that if it was volcanic, nothing had happened in quite some time. The sand was white, so there were no signs of any volcanic minerals in the sand. It was likely that all of it came from the sea, from shells coral and maybe even a bit of quartz. She wouldn't expect quartz in a climate like this though, so she suspected it was mostly dead marine animals and coral. Everything else suggested relatively calm weather and waves.
After just a few minutes of walking, she removed her shoes and rolled up her pants. It was annoying to try to walk through sand in combat boots like this, and the water and sand felt good on her feet. She collected a few small bottles of sand in a few places to take back with her, but that was the extent of the study she intended to do tonight. This was meant to just be a first look, not a full blown research run after all.
