This brief survey was going to start getting annoying now. Naveta had already explored all the areas relatively close to the city itself, with the exception of a couple. Now she had to decide if she wanted to brave those areas she had passed up before, or if she wanted to start going on some really long walks, probably right through the academy which was irritating as well. The area closest to the city had steep enough cliff faces and overhangs that not even she was crazy enough to attempt to climb it without the proper climbing gear, and even then she wasn't sure if she wanted to. The easiest way up would probably be the waterfall, but even that was relative. She had some pokemon that could probably take her up it, but they were all smaller than she was, which meant the trip up would not only be difficult for them, but it would mean she'd effectively have to hold herself up, and it would be difficult to keep her head out of the water properly. It would be doable, but it wouldn't be pleasant.
On the bright side, it at least explained one mystery of the island. There was a water source here that was relatively close to the swamp. She still had to confirm, but it seemed likely that the waterfall here continued underground or otherwise caused enough groundwater that the swamp could emerge. Between that, the fact that this was another mysterious mountain, and the fact that there were supposedly rarer pokemon here, made her choose this area rather than continuing to the eastern part of the island. After a moment of staring at the waterfall, she released her seel from her pokeball and ran her hand through her hair.
"Alright Firn, I need you to take me up there. Yes, I'm being serious. I'll hold on tight."
The seel looked at her trainer, then to the waterfall and then back to her trainer and blinked a few times. She wasn't so sure about this, but she wasn't one to talk back when given an order. Firn climbed into the base of the waterfall and Naveta climbed in after her, holding onto the seel's shoulders as best she could. Firn swam as hard as she could, but the progress was slow. It'd take quite awhile to get up there, meanwhile Naveta was choking down water and finding it difficult to breathe even while keeping her head down. The water pounding on the top of her head wasn't exactly pleasant either. Once they got to the top, Naveta rolled onto the ground, took a few deep breaths and started coughing up water. Firn looked concerned, but Naveta just shook her head.
"I'm fine."
After giving herself a moment to catch her breath, she returned Firn to her pokeball and began her exploration of the area. At the very least, it was a nice place. She could understand why some more territorial pokemon would want to make it their home.
