For thousands of years humans thought they were the only intelligent race on Earth. Except they weren’t – vampires, wereanimals, mages, dragons, shapeshifters, and so much more existed. This is their story.

The Virus

Spain, 2007. Hailed a miracle, the T1-Angel tomato was genetically engineered to be tastier, hardier, and longer-lasting than any natural tomato. It was the first of many crops to be engineered so that they could help feed the starving in third-world countries.

That was before the T1-Angel virus. An until-then unknown virus attached itself to a batch of the T1-Angel tomato crop in Spain, and no one knew until it was too late. The virus spread to all corners of the world within weeks. Within months it had decimated the world’s population – or at least, the human population.

As the world sickened and society began to crumble, it became obvious that one key group was not affected – the Others.

The Watches

There have always been Watches – organizations that kept the Other population in check. Night and Day, two polar opposites who have been fighting since the first Watch was founded in ancient times.

The Night Watch were the supernatural policemen; they policed themselves, kept Others from getting out of control and kept humans from knowing they existed. They were the ones who wanted to use their powers in a way that didn't negatively affect anyone else and who were willing to abide by the strict laws declared by the Watch.

The Day Watch was the opposite – they were the ones who wanted use their abilities however and whenever they wanted without anyone telling them different. If that included killing, stealing, smuggling, or other illegal activities… well, so be it. Sure, there were plenty who do indulged in those activities, but many others registered simply wanted control of their own powers.

It was the Night Watch who first stepped in when society faltered. They kept governments and social aide running; they kept the hospitals open and help flowing to those who needed it. Others were already in all levels and parts of society so it really wasn’t that big a step to keep the country running.

Combined, the two Watches came up with a cure for the T1-Angel virus. Once new reports of sickness started to falter the Others made the next logical step – coming out of the closet to humans.

The Revolution

As word spread that supernatural races existed, chaos erupted around the world. Humans, already scared, hurting, and looking for a scapegoat, began to riot. These beasts must have created the Virus, they claimed. Others began to be hunted in modern day witch hunts. One of the most notorious hate groups that formed were the Freedom Fighters, humans who aimed to kill every single Other on the planet.

In the turmoil the Night Watch lost their hold. Others began to fight back against the human’s fear, paranoia, and ignorance. The Day Watch’s message that Others were superior to humans began to take hold as hatred grew. Neighbors fought against neighbors, family against family.

The Day Watch grew stronger as months of fighting passed. In the end they overthrew the Night Watch, taking control of most countries. Immediately laws were passed declaring humans an inferior class of humanity. Others could do what they want whenever they wanted to humans without punishment. Night Watch branches were torn apart and outlawed, with many Night agents executed.

The Present

New York City, 2021. It’s now been ten years since the Revolution. On the surface not much seems to have changed – businesses run, schools teach, people live. Beneath the surface though…. Everything has changed.

Humans are now the inferior race – second class citizens with few rights and fewer liberties. They’re little better than glorified slaves now. Indeed, a new sort of slavery has sprung up with blood whores being sold openly on the streets and in markets.

Not everyone is happy with the new world. The Night Watch still fights from the shadows, working towards a better life for humanity while trying not to be killed themselves. The human Freedom Fighters and other hate groups still exist too, working underground to overthrow their Other masters.
