Name: Toni Hendrick
Age: 11
Date of Birth: April 18
Birthplace: Lavaridge Town, Hoenn
Gender: Female
Sexual Orientation: Asexual
Face Claim: Sandra/Hoshika, Pokemon anime
Appearance:
Distinguishing Features: She doesn’t actually own a hairclip like that. Her hair’s usually completely un-made-up. When she doesn’t have to be in the uniform, she prefers comfortable clothes and doesn’t really care about fashion or appearance. She does care about modesty, though. Whenever she finds herself in a skirt, she wears a pair of shorts underneath – no matter the length. She wears shoes when she has to, but prefers to be barefoot whenever she can get away with it. Other than that, there’s not really anything noteworthy about her appearance.
Height: 4'7"
Character Type: Student
Personality:
Back home, Toni was a happy, friendly child for the most part. She knew who to talk to and who to avoid, when to be playful and when to be serious, could easily find her way around town, and had a strong support system in her family. Because of this, she was completely confident and comfortable. She did have a little bit of a mischievous side, and enjoyed being creepy around her friends just to see their reactions, but she never got into any real trouble (other than the normal issues that might follow any child, anyway). Being a good person was important to her, as she was raised to believe that was the way to keep everyone around her happy. She was also sheltered and rather naïve, which is part of the reason for entering the school. Attending Gray Haven Academy is bound to show her the good and the bad of the world beyond her cozy little town, and that experience is meant to help her grow into a wise adult.
Now that she’s officially attending the school, she finds herself lost and overwhelmed. The person she was is still very much inside her, but it’s cloaked in a thick layer of nervousness and insecurity. Everyone and everything she ever knew was someone/something that had always been in her life, but now everything’s new and foreign and she doesn’t have the physical presence of her family to help her through it all. Perhaps all she needs to return to normal is a friend or two to help settle her and peel away the insecurities, or maybe the drastic change is simply too much for her. Only time will tell if the woman the academy eventually releases is the same person as the girl who first entered.

History:
Toni had a fairly sheltered upbringing, but also a happy one. She was the youngest of three daughters, all raised in the same home by loving parents alongside other families with kids around her age. Of course there was the occasional squabble between sisters or scolding when she or her sisters did something wrong, but the family all got along for the most part, and she can’t remember a time when things ever got truly bad.
When they weren’t spending time with their parents, Toni and her sisters were usually with a group of their friends, which consisted of four to seven other children (the number depending on the day and activity) from nearby homes. The kids would alternate between hanging out in each other’s’ rooms, finding a quiet spot in or near town where they could play games or have pretend Pokemon battles, or waiting until just before dusk and finding somewhere near Jagged Pass to share ghost stories…or they’d just explore the surrounding area to see what they could find before their parents called them back home for the day. On cooler days, they’d visit the hot springs, instead. On one birthday, her parents deemed her old enough for an acro bike, and she was able to join her sisters and their older friends when they went to collect ash on Jagged Peak or race on the bumpy path. Lavaridge may not be the largest or liveliest town, but there always seemed to be something fun to do.
The unfortunate thing about childhood groups is that they tend to disperse. Toni lost a couple friends when their family moved to Sinnoh. The oldest members of their group became teenagers and turned their focus to other things. Other friends stuck around, but just stopped spending time with the sisters, either to keep their friendships with one of the dispersed members or simply because they felt it was time to move on along with the others. Eventually, the group dwindled down to just the three sisters.
The older two got through their sadness and made new friends for themselves as they, too, matured. Toni never seemed to recover, and got to the point where she barely left home anymore. This worried her parents and – after a few family talks – it was decided that Toni would be enrolled in Gray Haven Academy after her next birthday. The academy would give her something to focus on and plenty of opportunities to make more friends and gain some much-needed independence and real-world experience. Toni wasn’t sure about being sent away from Lavaridge, but she’d always entertained the idea of becoming a Pokemon trainer someday. Why not put forth an effort to make that a reality?
Toni’s eleventh birthday rolled around, and her family made sure she got the best party they could manage. Her sisters had even gotten most of their old friends that were still in town to attend, and the group had a surprise for her when it came time to open her presents. It turned out that everyone had saved up some money and pooled everything together to get her a Fennekin. This was both a birthday present and a parting gift, since it would be quite a while before she saw any of them again. Her other noteworthy presents were a laptop (for her studies and so she could at least keep in touch with her family while at the academy) and a silver necklace with a small chunk of amethyst. That day was filled with singing, reminiscing, games, bonding with her new Pokemon, chocolate cake, ice cream, pizza, and a trip to the hot springs, and fun was had by all.
That was pretty much her last great day before it was time to head to the academy. She left behind most of her possessions – not wanting to lose track of anything and intending to return upon graduation, anyway – but made sure to bring along her Pokemon, laptop, necklace, and what outfits she thought she’d need. Since she only had the one Pokemon and was assigned to the Mana Dorm, the academy gave her a Honedge, and her life as a future Pokemon trainer officially began.
