Name: Gene Marshfield
Age: 14
Date of Birth: September 2nd
Birthplace: Aquacorde Town, Kalos
Gender: Male
Sexual Orientation: Is "whatever" an option?
Face Claim: Gimmy Adai - Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann
Appearance:
Height: 5'5"
Character Type: Student
Personality: Smart, energetic, and perceptive, Gene is a guy who follows his own idea of what’s right and wrong, which can sometimes get him into trouble when people don’t share his views. Whenever possible, Gene likes to take his time and assess situations before rushing in. He’s pretty open to strangers, and his quick thinking and creativity is often enough to get him out of any situation he might end up in, whether that be in battle or otherwise. His first impression is usually that of a friendly guy who tries to take his time whenever he has the option. Tries his best to keep up an optimistic view despite the circumstances. He loves meeting Pokemon, even though he doesn't usually care that much about catching them. Just seeing and interacting with new Pokemon is usually enough for him.
Likes: Photography, bird Pokemon, reading and learning about Pokemon, and nature
Dislikes: Crustacean Pokemon, cruel treatment of Pokemon by others, large crowds, science, math, and writing
History: Gene comes from a family of trainers. His mother is a teacher at the Santalune Trainer's School and works with Pokemon every day. His father doesn't work with Pokemon, as he works at the Santalune Boutique, but he is a trainer. That was how his parents met, in fact. And his parents passed their love of Pokemon down to Gene. With his parents commuting from Aquacorde to Santalune almost every day, Gene got used to seeing and interacting with Pokemon whenever he would go with them. Until he was ten, though, he wasn't allowed to have a Pokemon, so he became content with watching them. He loved to watch the differing movements inherent in all the unique species, and that manifested itself as an interest in taking pictures. On days when he wasn't occupied with school or other obligations, Gene would stake out the edge of tall, grassy areas waiting for Pokemon to come by so he could snap their photos. By the time his 10th birthday rolled around, Gene actually wasn't super interested in training Pokemon, and preferred to shoot pictures, sometimes befriending a Pokemon while he was out, and then letting them go about their business once he left.
However, his view of Pokemon was changed one day. While taking pictures of some Azurill on Route 3 in Unova, Gene noticed something in the shallow waters nearby that he had never seen before. There was some kind of yellow spike barely peeking out of the surface of the water. When he got closer to investigate, a huge, battle-scarred Crawdaunt burst out from the mud! Claws snapping, it advanced on Gene. Defenseless, he turned to run, slipping on the swampy ground and hitting his head on a rock. When he came to, he was looking into the eyes of a trainer and her Staraptor, who had saved him. On her advice, he decided to finally take up Pokemon training like his parents, who were all too happy to give him Pokeballs and advice. Taking both, Gene went out in search of a partner.
He set off to find a bird Pokemon. He was inspired by the woman who saved him from the Crawdaunt, and wanted to pay respect to what she had done for him. While he didn't have trouble finding any, he was reluctant for his first Pokemon to be one that didn't want to join him. After days of searching, he finally found a Fletchling who seemed open to a partnership, one with a unique star-shaped mark on its forehead. After several days of leaving and returning to find the same Fletchinder continuously posing for pictures, Gene offered it his Pokeball, which it happily obliged to. With a new partner, Gene began his education as a Pokemon Trainer. Yet, it wouldn't be as easy as attending his mom's class in Santalune. After proving that his instincts in battle were every bit as strong as his folks', and getting a fews wins (and losses) under his belt, Gene's parents decided to send him to Gray Haven Academy. After all, teaching your own son in an unbiased way isn't that easy...
