[Santos "Shadow" Almaz]

If one didn't know better, Santos looked like he was just chilling at the beach with his pokemon. However those that knew Santos knew he doesn't 'chill' at the beach and it was obvious by the way his pokemon were positioned.

His Joltik, Tick was on his left shoulder keeping her eyes out for various things. Z-man the Munna was had a plotting look in his eye as he floated over Santos' right shoulder as his super-villain mind tried to determine why they were there and Akiko well the shiny chespin was in the lead looking around, she was in the mood for a fight

Santos hummed "Purple and Gray Moss..." He muttered lowly as he echoed the requirement for the mission. "Needed for research..." He hummed "funny that doesn't sound like the scheme of a evil organization."

Z-man muttered something

"but what do I know about villainy." Santos stated "I'm just one of the workers. I do my job and I get my pay nothing more. Let's roll."

[Naveta Lejori]

Naveta sighed when she saw there were actual jobs now.  At first, she just stared at the offer as she considered whether or not she was going to take it at all, but in the end, she knew she had to do something at least.  Being a glorified freeloader, even if she was supposedly doing something useful elsewhere, in an organization like this was probably not a good idea.  Part of her was happy to be aiding in some kind of research, but she wished it was something that a well-trained pokemon couldn't do.  Being a glorified grass collector wasn't exactly her idea of helping, especially when she was capable in several different areas herself when it came to such things.  Oh well, at least it'd be some easy brownie points.

As far as she could tell, there were only a few places it could be if it was near or on the beach.  Moss and salt didn't mix, so it couldn't be anywhere the salt water could hit it, yet it still needed plenty of moisture in order to survive.  It probably wouldn't be on the beach itself due to the high salt content that tended to be in beach sands from the seawater.  This narrowed it down considerably, so hopefully she'd be able to find it pretty quickly.  She wasn't exactly counting on her partner for this mission to be anything more than a meat shield, so she just intended to rely on her own knowledge for the most part.

It didn't take too long for her to get to the beach.  Her clothing consisted of jeans, her usual combat boots and a t-shirt, and while it was a little inappropriate for beach going it was one of three sets of clothes she owned.  She didn't exactly have many options.  Her expression was as flat as always, and it neither changed, nor did she slow down when her partner for this mission came into view.  He could probably keep up fine, and if he couldn't she was fast enough to run from any trouble if it came down to it.  Her pokemon remained in their balls in order to keep them safe for the time being.  Her team consisted of her two strongest pokemon, Arkose the Misdreavus and Cirque the Zorua, along with a seel she decided to call Firn that she recently captured.  Firn's main purpose was to eat any attacks from anything that might attack the other two, but she was sure the little seel would be happy to protect them even if it was a rather undignified job.

"Hey there newcomer," she waved without stopping or even looking at him.  "Let's get this over with."

After his initial reaction when she used that phrase she decided that was going to be his nickname.  Forever.  Or at least until she found something she liked better.  It was at least easier to take seriously than his actual alias.

Harmonia Beach. A place where the Krabby and the Wingull came together to do battle to the death on occasion. This was the sort of place you found yourselves at. Your mission? Collection of samples. Easy enough, right? After all, it's not like you had a few wild Pokemon coming out to meet you, or anything. Nope. No-sir-ee. They just happened to be there and coming at you both. Beware the clamp.

Santos scoffed at the newcomer line then saw a couple of pinch happy pokemon come in range "you're right let's get this over with I have better things to do. Akiko, Seed Bomb on the Corphish."

"Chespin!" Akiko stated eagerly as she fired Seed Bomb sending three seed bombs towards the Corphish

The Corphish reacted with casting Protect and the Seed Bombs bounced off harmlessly

Akiko's jaw dropped and she made a complaint.

Santos hummed "keep it on the defensive Akiko. Seed Bomb again."

Akiko fired another round of three Seed Bombs.

The Corphish used Crunch to catch two of the seed bombs in it's claws and crushed them creating harmless explosions however the third hit directly causing the Corphish to grunt.

Santos hummed "alright Akiko go for a Rollout

Akiko rolled into a ball and shot towards the Corphish

The Corphish claw became surrounded in water as he charged at Akiko and hit the rollout move with his claw like batter hitting a baseball.

Akiko was sent flying backward. She was knocked down on her back

Santos grunted "Akiko you okay?"

Akiko chirped then picked herself up

The Corphish snickered then used taunt

Akiko gained an anime vein.

Santos scoffed "don't take that, Pin Missile followed up by Seed Bomb."

Akiko shot off Pin Missile

The Corphish used Protect to block it

Akiko then fired Seed Bomb.

The Corphish attempted to protect against it but the seed bombs landed and hit hard causing a knockout

Santos hummed as he pulled out a pokeball. "Gotcha!" He called as he threw the ball and caught the Corphish

"Capture Complete." Santos stated

Akiko posed

Naveta continued along at a rushed pace, but some wild pokemon apparently decided that they wanted a piece of the moss gatherers.  Didn't that figure?  Normally she'd be happy about finding more pokemon to capture, but she didn't have time for this right now.  She was content to just ignore them, but it looked like her 'partner' had other ideas.  Naveta just sighed and rubbed her forehead.  Whatever, they'd probably be inconvenient later, she supposed she could tell them to get lost via beating the snot out of them.

"Alright everyone, get out here."

With that, she released all of the pokemon she set aside for this mission.  She had work to do, so there was no need to not go all out here.  Both Arkose and Firn looked ready to go, but Cirque still looked half asleep.  In other words, nothing unusual was going on here, and she was going to have to bribe that Zorua with snacks again.  The Krabby approached them and started snapping its claws threateningly, or at least as threateningly as such a pokemon could.  Even though she brought Firn to protect everyone else, it looked like Arkose might be more effective in that regard for this fight.

The Krabby charged Cirque, clearly getting ready to just tear the poor Zorua with its claws.  Naveta looked unfazed and not even remotely concerned.

"Arkose, intercept."

The Misdreavus put himself between the Krabby and Cirque, taking the brunt of the attack for the fox pokemon.  A small smile formed on Arkose's face and he narrowed his eyes slightly.  It didn't even hurt him at all, and now the Krabby would be in one place if only for a moment.

"Let's get 'em.  Cirque, Night Daze.  Firn, Brine."

This was probably over kill, but she didn't want to take any chances.  Cirque's attack would do the majority of the damage, since the Krabby resisted water, but if it had any strength left she was pretty sure that Firn's attack would be sufficient to finish it off.  She briefly considered using Take Down to avoid hitting its resistance, but all things considered there was really no reason to even slightly injure her pokemon in this situation.  As expected, the Krabby stood still for a moment, then fell over on its side.  It didn't look like it was going to get up any time soon.  Normally this is where she would capture it, but again, she had other things to do right now.

Sadly, it looked like she was going to be delayed further.  Her 'partner' was only using one pokemon to fight off the other crab for some reason.  Naveta raised one of her eyebrows.  Was he trying to be fair to the wild pokemon or something?  Well, there was no reason not to sick her team on it at this point just to make the fight go faster and make it so the poor pokemon forced to fight this way would get hurt less.

How delightful. You managed to beat away some crabs. Quite an experience, yes? Before you consider eating crab cakes and lobster, though, you should remember what you came here for! Noticing movement, as well as both gray and purple, from the source of your attackers, you investigate, only to find a small colony of crabby things. They stare at you. Between you is a mound of gray moss and a smaller pile of purple moss.


Carefully consider your options, kiddos.

A: Collect the “Gray Moss” (trademark)

B: Collect the “Purple Moss” (copyright), both of you roll a 1d10.

C: Collect both piles, since that's what you're here for. Both of you roll a 1d20.

That was relatively painless at least.  An annoying waste of time, sure, but it was at least quick about it.  Naveta was about to continue on her way, when she noticed a bit of purple out of the corner of her eye.  That was probably what they were looking for.  There were some white samples not too far as well.  Sadly, the purple samples were right in the middle of a bunch of crabs, because of course it was.  It was just her luck that what she was sent to get would be in such an annoying place.  The white moss was far enough away from the crab colony that she doubted they would care if she were to grab some of that.  It would be so much easier than going for the purple stuff.

Naveta considered just going for the white moss, since the mission said 'or' and not 'and,' but she didn't entertain the idea for long.  In situations like this, reputation was everything.  Even of she effectively had steady employment now, in her old lifestyle if anyone viewed her as even slightly incompetent it would, at best, mean less jobs.  At worst it meant she wouldn't get any.  This made her extremely thorough in every job she did, but even without the practical aspects she still thought it was important to do good work even if it was annoying sometimes.  Half-assing anything would just leave a bad taste in her mouth, even if it was something as stupid as picking up some moss on the beach.  Not to mention, this was, in theory, supposed to be helping with some kind of scientific research, and that was something she always had an interest in, even if it wasn't one of her favored subjects.  If she told someone to go out and get some samples for her and they only came back with half of what she asked for, she'd be...well mildly irritated because it's not like she would expect them to do it right in the first place, but it will still slow her down and be obnoxious.  It was clear there was only one answer.

Naveta groaned and ran her hand through her hair as she thought about what to do.  The crab army over there had already spotted them, so her specialties were less useful here.  She supposed it was worth a shot though.  At minimum, she should be able to use her pokemon as a distraction while she grabbed them, but if she could get through this without resorting to that, that'd be for the best.  She squatted in front of her Zorua so she could give her some orders more quietly.

"Cirque, see if you can get the purple moss.  They've seen us, but if you take the long way around you might be able to disguise yourself long enough to grab some and get back.  If you get discovered, grab as much moss as you can and run back to me."

The Zorua nodded, and started to try to make her way out of sight, where she would then disguise herself as one of the crabs in the colony and try to grab some moss.  In the mean time, Naveta herself would grab some of the white stuff, while keeping her eye on the crabs.  If Cirque was discovered, she would try to run in there, grab some herself and run out, while trying to keep any crab-related damages to a minimum.  Fortunately, she was fairly small and fast, so it shouldn't be too hard.  Still, despite all that she felt like she was forgetting something important.  She tapped her chin as she made her way to the white moss, and realized that she had almost forgotten that she technically had a partner here.  She supposed it might be important for him to know what she was doing too.

"Going to try to get both types.  We'll see how that works out.  Just...get ready to run if necessary."

Hopefully it was just crab food that wouldn't look weird for another crab to take and not some sacred crab artifact or something equally as stupid.

The pokemon made noises and they prepared a barrage of attacks

"I'll get the gray moss for sure." Santos stated

Things could be worse. They could be better, yes, but they could be worse. The collection of the gray moss actually put a majority of the crabs at ease, and they went about on their crabby business. It seems the gray mess was a threat, or undesired. For the few remaining, however, the purple moss seemed to have a special significance. It goes without saying that they wouldn't allow your escape.

Not without a fight.

Santos easily collected the Gray Moss but the purple was heavily guarded by pokemon and they launched attacks against Santos as he went for the Purple Moss.

"Attack!"

Joltik fired an Electo web at the pokemon which shocked them both due to weakness.

Akiko followed that up with a Seed Bomb on Binacle which nailed the Water/Rock with double weakness and blew it away.

Z-Man fired a Psybeam at the Clauncher which the shrimp pokemon took.

The Clauncher returned fire with a Mega Launcher Water Pulse

Akiko stood in front of the attack and took it. She then shrugged it off.

Tick taking this moment fired a Electroball which nailed the Clauncher and finished it off

"Get the purple Moss." He called to Naveta

Yeah, there was pretty much no way that was going to work.  Even if crabs weren't exactly known for their intelligence, it was pretty hard to sneak anywhere when they've already been seen.  Even so, Cirque managed to get some purple moss, they just needed to make some more crab cakes if they wanted to get out of here.  Easy enough, though the one going after her Zorua didn't look nearly as crab-like as the others.  Naveta shook her head, this was not the time to worry about such nonsense.  The...maybe crab was trying to ram into Cirque to knock the moss away from her.  This could obviously not happen.

"Firn," she ordered calmly, "Protect Cirque no matter what."

The seel nodded, and with a determined look on her face, intercepted the attack.  The wild pokemon more or less bounced off of Firn's body, doing little damage, but Naveta did notice that there were a few cuts on her and that she seemed a little more tired.  It was okay, she didn't intend to leave that thing standing for long.  If all went well, that would be the only attack she would have to intercept.

"Cirque, charge through and don't stop.  Just use Night Daze on your blockade.  Arkose," she looked to the Misdreavus hovering by her shoulder.  "Help Cirque with Shadow Ball."

Both of the pokemon nodded, and attacked the defending pokemon from opposite sides.  As ordered, Cirque did not stop running towards Naveta, though it looked rather humorous while she was disguised as a crab.  The attacks hit at the same time, engulfing the wild pokemon in darkness.  Once it faded, it fell over looking rather surprised from it all.  Cirque hopped on top of its body and darted back to where Naveta was.  All things considered, that wasn't nearly as annoying as it could have been.  Still, she didn't exactly what to stick around longer than necessary.  She grabbed the purple moss from Cirque and returned all of her pokemon to their balls.  If they were needed again, they could come out.  However, before returning Arkose, she gave him one last order.

"Flash."

With that, a bright light emitted from the Misdreavus that would hopefully blind any more pursers long enough for them to get away.  They got what they came here for, so there really was no need to spend all afternoon fighting angry wild pokemon.

Seems like there was a disturbance in the force. Yeah, you got the moss needed, and all, but boy, oh boy, it'd be a good idea to run. It's almost like two polarizing forces clashed, though, because while things weren't terrible, they weren't perfect, either. Seems you've gotta deal with one more mess before you're home free. Fight hard, party harder.

Naveta darted through the sand as quickly as she could, which was sadly slower than usual because this kind of terrain was terrible for running in.  When the light generated by Arkose faded, she quickly glanced behind her.  It looked like she ditched most of the crab army at least.  There were still some back there looking rather peeved that their purple moss was stolen, but they probably wouldn't be able to catch up to her.  Crabs were not exactly known for their ability to run.  However, when she looked in front of her there were still some pokemon blocking her escape, except this time they weren't even crabs.  They were likely stronger than all the crabs too given the crabs were all unevolved pokemon.  Naveta clicked her tongue and released her pokemon once again.  It'd be annoying enough to get around them that it was easier to just go through them.  With any luck, she'd only have to get through one of them, with the other one hopefully being distracted by Newcomer over there.  She focused on the one closest to her: the Croconaw.

"Alright everyone, you know what to do.  Hit him with everything you've got, and don't stop moving!"

Cique just sighed and started collecting a ball of pure darkness in her mouth once more, while Arkose started generating his own dark blob to throw at the enemy.  Firn just seemed a little self conscious because she knew that her own attacks probably wouldn't hurt this thing very much.  Firn looked at Naveta to make sure she really was supposed to smack the crocodile around a bit and Naveta just nodded.  It wouldn't be much, but it might be the difference between knocking it out now and knocking it out after a second volley of attacks.  Sadly, even after all the attacks connected, the Croconaw was able to get back on its feet, and with a little shake of its head to make it less dizzy, it began charging towards them to make its own attack.  Naveta clicked her tongue once again.  She had made sure that her pokemon had stayed relatively safe for this whole mission, and she wasn't about to stop that.  She couldn't quite tell what type of attack it was going to use, so deciding which pokemon to block the attack was more difficult than it needed to be.  However, her pokemon weren't the only ones capable of fighting.  Sure, she didn't exactly have super powers, but she was fairly strong and could pack a punch if she put her mind to it.  Rather than let the wild pokemon attack her pokemon, Naveta sped up and kicked the Croconaw square in the jaw.  It was fortunate this thing was at least shorter than she was.  It didn't look like that was quite enough to knock it out, but it was clearly surprised and a bit dazed.  Ignoring the crabs was pretty easy, they were just crabs after all, but this guy was a bit stronger than those crabs and capturing it would get it out of her way.  In the Croconaw's confusion, Naveta grabbed a pokeball and pushed it against its snout.  The ball wiggled a few times in her hand, but eventually clicked.

Now she had a stronger pokemon in her arsenal and could escape the beach with the materials she needed.  All things considered, this mission wasn't too bad.  Even if she was still a little offended that she was just gathering grass instead of helping with the actual research.

Croconaw captured

Santos used the bright flash to make his and his pokemon escape as well. He was carrying Akiko by her who was in the mood to continue fighting. Fortunately for her there was a final battle to be had. A Crononaw and Dewott was on the attack. Naveta was no stranger to battling in fact she even had the guts to directly attack the Crononaw herself and nailed the pokemon in the Jaw but unlike her Santos had come prepared for water types.

"Tick, Akiko, Z-man. Triple Attack." He threw Akiko into the air

"Chespin!" Akiko shouted as she prepared her attack

Tick fired a Electro Ball

The Dewott guarded against the attack but was still shocked

Seed Bombs from Akiko followed by a Psybeam by Z-man and it was too much for the Water Type to handle and it was knocked down

"we're out of here." Santos stated as he caught Akiko and ran with the collected Moss in his pocket and boy could he flee.

By some strange twist of fate, you not only managed to acquire what was desired of you, but you managed to survive and get some things of your own. What skill. Much expertise. Wow. In any case, you succeeded. Maybe you have a bright future in Origin, or something? Whatever the case. . .

Like collect more moss.
