Name: Serena Miller
Age: 15
Date of Birth: February 22
Birthplace: A small town, so small and insignificant that it's not even on any maps, in the Kalos region
Gender: Female
Sexual Orientation: Homosexual
Face Claim: iDOLM@STER - Hiromi Seki
Appearance:
Distinguishing Features: Serena has a wide frame for a girl. Her wide hips and shoulders make her look heavy, and her body is somewhat squishy despite being fairly strong
Height: 5"4'
Character Type: Student
Personality: Most people will probably not see Serena's true personality, even she isn't completely sure what that is anymore. This is because she adopts whatever personality she thinks the people around her prefer. Her projected personality doesn't radically change from person to person, but there are a fair amount of subtle differences, most notably her opinions. This stems from the most obvious aspect of her "true" personality: she wants to keep everyone around her as happy as possible.
So, she always puts on this happy, almost bubbly, front regardless of how she's actually feeling. After all, people looking sad around her makes her feel a little sad, and she doesn't want anyone to feel like that. She never cries or looks angry, and about the only time she's not able to completely hold up the facade is when she's worried or anxious. That's especially true if someone wants her to do something she thinks is "bad" or just an overall bad idea.
Coupled with that, she doesn't want anyone to feel bad about themselves either, so she tends to downplay her talents and intelligence. However, she doesn't want to seem completely useless to everyone either, so she doesn't hide them necessarily, she just makes herself sound less skilled than she is. In regards to her intelligence though, she hides that almost completely. She has a rich vocabulary, is able to pick up new skills and ideas fairly quickly, and is a genius when it comes to natural sciences, but no one would ever be able to tell that from looking at her. She makes herself come off as more of an airhead, speaking with very small words and simple sentences to make sure she's understood, and only uses more technical language when speaking to someone she knows for sure would understand it and it would just be weird if she didn't.
There are a few parts of her personality she can't hide though. Ultimately, she likes being around people and is actually reasonably social. She's just hopelessly shy and awkward, so she finds talking with them difficult. As a result, she tends to feel really lonely just because she's too afraid to go talk to people most of the time. After all, she doesn't want to bother them. This coupled with her desire to make people happy, makes her easily manipulated and willing to do almost anything to keep people around her. To make matters even worse, she sees herself as unworthy to be around most of the people she knows, so she's constantly afraid they're going to ditch her once she's no longer useful.

History: Serena was born in a small town out in the country side. There were only about 100 people living in it, so it was the kind of place where everyone knew everyone else and they rarely got visitors. Most people didn't even know it existed because it wasn't normally put on any maps it was so small and there wasn't a whole lot there.
On the outside, her family seemed sane, perhaps even normal. On the inside it wasn't quite that simple. Her family was very controlling in general, but her mother in particular was a complete nightmare. When her mother was sad, she made sure everyone else was sad. When she was happy, everyone else had better be happy, or she'd be sad and make sure everyone else was sad too. She always had a particular image she wanted to keep, and would get outright vicious if that image was broken, even if it wasn't and she just perceived it as being messed up somehow. She expected near perfection out of everyone in her family. Naturally, this put a lot of pressure on Serena. It got worse as she got older, as her mother perceived Serena's failings as her own, and she would be punished quite harshly for even minor things.
Serena wasn't the only child her parents have. In fact, she's the oldest of five, and that position just added to the pressure put on her as she was growing up. Even though she was only three when her first siblings were born (they were twins), she was still expected to help take care of them and to be a good role model for them. Messing up meant not only making her mother look like a bad person (to her mother), but it also meant she was setting a bad example for her younger siblings. After awhile, she really started to believe that she just couldn't do anything right, and that she just shouldn't try to do anything at all. For the most part, she just did what she was told and didn't venture beyond that. These factors crushed her ability to form her own identity, and gave her a black and white mentality. Either something was good, or it was bad, there was no in between. It messed up her ability to think about things ethically too. Rather than thinking in terms of right and wrong, she started thinking in terms of good or bad, or should do versus should not do.
This doesn't mean she didn't find any happiness in her childhood. She very quickly developed a love of outdoors activities such as camping, fishing and even hunting. She learned how to use a bow from an early age, and learned enough about general survival techniques that sometimes she would just leave home with her father with nothing but a few hunting tools, a tent and his pokemon. She also developed a love for learning and research, and always did quite well in school.
Eventually, her father gave her a young Growlithe as a present to serve as companion to take on those camping trips. Even with the pokemon, she still rarely went out on her own, and when she did she never went too far from home. Even so, she made sure her new friend was well trained (even if it was to go find ducks she shot rather than battling) and could obey simple commands. Sometimes she thought about using Growlithe to catch new pokemon, but attacking innocent animals that were just minding their own business when you weren't even going to eat them just seemed mean to her. Plus, if these were sentient creatures like her, unlike the animals she hunted, then she could only assume that they would just hate her forever if she attacked them and forcibly captured them. She did eventually get a second pokemon though, through a lucky fossil find in a cave on the outskirts of the town she lived in. She wasn't quite sure what it was at first, but once she showed it to her father, he insisted that she get it revived. The Aerodactyl that resulted in, ended up being extremely friendly and would always try to snuggle up to her despite being much bigger than her, and not exactly a soft pokemon to begin with. It's not unusual for the pokemon to accidentally crush her, and any attempts to get her to stop have failed.
Despite all that, she was hesitant to follow her family's tradition and go travel the world (or at least the region) on her own pokemon journey. Serena believed she still had responsibilities at home and wanted to continue her education, but more than that she just didn't think she was good enough. So, she watched her younger siblings go out on their own, much to her parents' (particularly her father's) disappointment. Time passed, and she realized exactly how old she was getting. Most of her siblings had left home, and the only one left was her five year old sister. She was used to her mother's constant disappointment, but the look on her father's face every time she said she didn't want to go yet was just getting hard to handle. Rather than go off on her own, she decided to come to the Gray Haven Academy. It seemed like a reasonable compromise, and it would still allow her to continue the education she loved so much. Even if she was apprehensive about living on her own, it was probably better than staying home at this point. Probably.
